Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Historia
The Railway Detective faces his most dangerous adversary yet. It is 1852, and Inspector Robert Colbeck and his assistant Sergeant Victor Leeming are faced with their most complex and difficult case to date. As a train speeds over the Sankey Viaduct, a man is hurled from a carriage and plummets into the canal below. It later transpires that he has been stabbed to death. With no papers by which to identify the man, the detectives' investigation is hampered from the start. Suspecting that the victim may have come from continental Europe, Colbeck and Leeming take the case to France where a new railway is being built by a British contractor.

who let this slip by?
Revisado: 08-29-19
To put it plainly - this is awful. I could not get past the start of the 2nd chapter. the narration is awful- the worst accents -and the second voice is ridiculous. The accent changes as she reads! The story has historical flaws that make it so hard to read - not referring to the ripper- we GET she is not an expert - but what the characters say is all wrong. the culture is wrong. it may get better - but it almost burned my ears - i could not get past the beginning this is just sad, production where are you?

While listening to this book, i have a hard time settling into the story. the atmosphere is not laid out so it is kind of like listening to actors with no set changes.

Good book, Awful production
Revisado: 12-26-18
The story was interesting, the narrator can be good. However, the production is terrible. Spliced in phrases are choppy and the volume doesn't match often. So while listening it goes from soft to loud pieces just every where that don't flow. There are even two places where you hear 3 takes of the same phrasing. Also it cut the ending off a couple of times at chapter 17 when listening on alexia, had to go back and ask for chapter 20. Fix the production problems and it will be an enjoyable book. Can't blame the narrator on the problems....
