BLUF: worth the credit
Revisado: 08-05-23
Narrators: Both the man and the woman were good. They both did excellent jobs in differentiating the voices of the different characters.
Story: Not bad. Not the greatest piece of fiction ever written, no but just interesting enough I finished it. Pacing was a bit off, with long periods of dialog or internal monolog followed by back to back sex scenes. The author clearly has in her mind the setting she built the story around but she jumps right in with little explanation as to who the players are, how they got there, what their relationships are, how technology works, etc. Some of that does come but in fits and spurts, with all too much still left unexplained. Combined with the Pacing issue and it was off putting.
Overall: It was worth the credit. Ill check out the next book, see if it is more of the same or if the author will spend some of the word count on explaining the setting a bit more, rather than back to back sex scenes.

Home is where the heart is...at least that's what they say. Rob has made a home for himself in Olimero. Now, he finds himself entangled in events outside of the town he has made his own. A tournament, rival gangs, jealous gods, and an expanding family—it's a lot for one man to juggle, especially as his wives each have their own interests.

Starting to decline
Revisado: 05-01-23
BLUF: Fantastic narration can't save a increasing bad story.
Narration: Superb as always. Daniel and Rebecca are two of the best in the business. They aren't just narrators, they are true voice actors.
Story: Lets be frank, this genre isn't the most highly regarded in literature. It's a niche market and should be judged by that standard. In that regard, the series is about on par with most of the rest of the offerings in the genre. However the story has begun to decline, mostly because of the main character (MC).
He stated off as a mostly decent guy, thrust into a strange world. The classic stranger in a strange land trope that's been around since Mark Twain with his Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and popularized in anime and manga as "Isekai". Personally I feel that trope is VASTLY over utilized in this genre but I recognize that is my personal feelings.
So Rob our hero starts off as a more or less decent guy, if a bit on the stupid side. He is also steadfastly arrogant though he doesn't recognize it, not truly. That is seen time and again when he realized his moral values, traditions, laws and such are entirely from his world and so he is the outsider and stranger. A reasonably intelligent person would recognize that and adapt themselves yo the culture they are in, rather than demand everyone conform to them. At times he even realizes just how ego centric he is being...right before he keeps doing it anyways.
That trait was tolerable but with each new book, as his power continues to grow, he has become more and more of the classic arrogant jerk. It's his way or the highway, no problem exists he can't defeat with brute force and his will to make everything how he sees fit. Worse, he can't even be consistent. He has also picked a new horrible character trait; capriciousness.
He demonstrates that frequently. One example is how he is so frustrated with people deferring to him, being afraid of him for his power. He wants people to joke with him yet when one of his most trusted aides does just that, makes a well intentioned joke about him and his wives, he near completely losses his temper. He does completely lose his composure, threatening to kill the elderly woman.
I'm not sure if I will continue with the series. It seems clear his character arc will be to become even more arrogant, egotistical, capricious and generally unlikable. I won't return the books for a refund but I won't be spending another credit on the series unless the reviews make it clear his character changes and becomes someone I can cheer for instead of despise.

Coming out of the Dakotas with a little bit of extra scratch was more than I could have reasonably expected, given how much trouble we'd found ourselves in. Little did I know how much deeper the rabbit hole could go. When I was offered a job to hunt down and stop a group of flamboyant assassins, I immediately said what any self-respecting poker player would say: No. No way. Absolutely not. Are you out of your mind?

Story: Continues to be great. Unlike so many MCs in this genre, this one doesn't become a raging @$$hole as he gains knowledge and power. Thats a refreshing change. Overall the plot is interesting and maintains an internal consistency that can be lacking in too many stories. My only complaints are with his cellphone. Her hate for him is entirely irrational. If she had told him about Pinnacle killing the women he slept with after oh, the first two, then he would have stopped. Instead, she goes insane and take it out on him, forcing him to never activate her when if she had simply told him, there wouldn't have been a problem.
Performance: As always, superb. Nothing more to say on that score, they are two of the best in the business.
I really hope the author continues the series. This is one of the few non Iskei stories out there. Besides that, it is genuinely entertaining. I want to see the MC use his brain and wake up an ambulance. He already knows that waking up a Firebird resulted in a meta that can literally burst into flame like a well FIREBIRD. Since that's not a natural ability of that car, it stands to reason that waking up other machines based on their model name and or purpose, would produce a meta with powers and abilities based on their model name and function. Waking up an ambulance would solve a lot of the issues he faces regularly.

Historia
Rob is a sheriff's deputy faced with a choice: die in a meaningless shootout six hours from now, or accept the offer of a new life in another world offered by a mysterious goddess. But it won't be easy. He has to bring law and order to the wild frontier. The shocks keep coming when he finds out humans aren't native to Olimero. It is a land populated with fierce orcs, wild beastkin, and cunning elves. He may not have their magic, but he does have an edge. As an outsider, he has no cap on his stats. He will need to train, fight, and survive if he wants to rule.

Not bad
Revisado: 07-06-22
Bottom line up front; its worth the credit.
Narration: Superb. For starters there was a male and female narrator, each doing the voice for characters of their gender. Thats a huge plus right there. Next the quality of the narrators was top notch. Each character was given their own distinct tone and accent, which made it easier to follow which character was speaking.
Story: Good if unoriginal concept. This one is fairly typical for the genre. I think the author utilized notes and thought out the physics and natural laws of the world before they started writing, which was appreciated. Where they could have done better is not exactly copy/incorporate game mechanics. I personally find it annoying if the characters have not just quantifiable stats but actual "stat windows" they can call up.
Main Character: Not bad for the genre. The author avoided the mistake of making him overpowered so that was nice. I did find the MC's refusal to grow and accept the world he was now in to be tiresome. Whether the author intended or not, the MC comes across as arrogant and even haughty in his moral certitude and convictions as to what constitutes right and wrong.
For example he frequently insists that everyone in a world not his own, change their behavior to accommodate him, rather than follow their customs and traditions. This is even after near the end of the book where he actually says the words "When in Rome...", implying that he had finally figured out that rather than expect everyone to adapt to him, he needed to adapt to them. It was so frustrating in fact I nearly gave up on the book twice. Hopefully as the books progress the MC embraces the world he is in and stops trying to change everyone to his customs and culture.

The beautiful monster girls of the Archipelagos were in need. They needed a man to help build their homes. They needed a man to teach them to survive. They needed a man to defend them from the evil slaver-pirates. And most of all, they needed a man to impregnate them and rebuild their population. Fortunately for them, a man named Ben came from our world to give them everything they needed.

Done like a radio drama
Revisado: 11-18-21
The audio book includes music and multiple voice actors, making this more like an old radio drama than a straight audio book reading. I like that actually and wish that it had included sound effects as well.
One thing that did detract though was using different voice actors for the same character. I think the baron had three different voice actors over the course of the story, making it difficult to follow.
Aside from that, the book is excellent.

Well worth the time and price
Revisado: 04-15-21
Bottom line up front; Worth your time and money if you're into slightly erotic, modern science fiction or superhero genre.
The story does start off a little bit slowly but not so slow you lose interest and move on.
The Main Character (MC) is believable. He isn't a genius, isn't unreasonably lucky, isn't the second coming of Casanova. What he does have is a moral compass and the courage to follow it, even when he'd much rather run for the hills.
The performance is simply excellent. Couldn't ask for better.

Malem is a breaker. He breaks the minds of beasts, exerting the steel vise of his will over their own, bending them to his wishes. His ability is severely limited in terms of the types of creatures he can control and how many. Most monsters have always been beyond him. And then one day he accidentally breaks a monster girl. Doors begin to open for him faster than he thought possible.

Revisado: 06-26-19
First the performance; it was above average. Luke Daniels manages to alter his voice sufficiently to give each of the main characters an individual sound. He doesn't manage to sound like a woman for the female characters but you can't have everything.
Now for the story. It was just entertaining enough to keep my interest all the way to the end. The author did seem to be struggling with pacing. In the beginning it is rather slow, almost painfully so. Then just past the middle it turns into one extended chase scene that becomes boring rather quickly. Finally towards the end the pacing stabilizes into the "just right" zone between action and character/plot development.
It is light on the Harem elements. For most of the story there are only two women associated with the main character. Of those two, only one is romantically interested in him. That's not a "harem", that's a couple traveling with a friend. Later, close to the end, the other woman becomes romantically involved in the main character but that still isn't a harem, that's a love triangle. Still, that part of the story did progress and the end makes it clear the main character is definitely heading in the direction of becoming involved with more.

Couldn't listen anymore after 3 hours.
Revisado: 06-15-19
First let me say the voice acting is fine. Not great but definitely good enough to make you believe they are different people.
And that's about it for the good news. Everything else was either absolutely horrid or almost approached OK.
The worst part is the main character. There is nothing likable about him. He starts off telling you he always knew he didn't belong and had a special destiny. Then a goddess plucks him from Modern Earth and tells him exactly that, confirming his specialness all along.
She then drops him off in a high fantasy world where, to no surprise, he has innate magic. That would be OK if he didn't ask for help learning how to control this power, then get pissed off every single time someone even kinda mentions he has no training. At one point he is taken to the most powerful order of magic on the planet, to the head of the order no less. Does he act humble? Is he grateful for the audience? Happy to be given a chance to learn? Triple no.
It was like watching a highschool student tell a PHD I know more than you... after you just asked them to teach you. That's how it came across.
I had to give up after three hours.

It's not just an audiobook, it's a radio drama! complete with sound effects. I only wish all audiobooks were as good as this. The only thing, the ONLY thing that could have made it better would have been for a woman to do the female voices instead of a man doing both male and female voices.
