Historia
Over the course of three years, Alice Oswald recorded conversations with people who live and work on the River Dart in Devon. Using these records and voices as a sort of poetic census, she creates in Dart a narrative of the river, tracking its life from source to sea.

What a wonderful nature-river-local people poem about the Dart river, beautifully read by the author. This is from Spacecraft Voyager I, New and selected poems, by Alice Oswald.

Hard to follow narration

The reading by Shaun Grindell is hard to understand. He begins every sentence strong, then the voice trails off to very soft, so you can barely hear the last two or three words. EVERY SENTENCE. The story and characters are interesting.

Historia
In this short, searing book, Auster traces centuries of America’s use and abuse of guns, through the colonial prehistory of the Republic, armed conflict against the native population, the forced enslavement of millions, and the mass shootings that dominate the current news cycle. He examines the embattled gun-control and anti-gun-control camps, frames gun violence as a public health issue, and investigates the details of one horrific incident including the perpetrator’s unchecked purchase of the gun he used and the suffering of a bystander-turned-hero.

It is very moving to hear how gun violence impacted Paul Auster's family. I learned more about the wild west in America, and how our society is more dangerous and violent today, in the country where guns outnumber people.

Great poems and great poets. But Robert Patrick reads these like they are baseball scores, in his rough, husky voice. Each poet gets a brief introduction, something you would read to High School freshman.

Do not buy. You get about 1/3 of this beautiful novel, and the sound quality is poor. Of course Jeremy Irons is great, but we would like a decent recording quality. There is an audio complete version on Youtube.

Historia
Evgenii Onegin is best known in the West through Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin. But the original narrative poem (consisting of 389 stanzas, the form of which has become known as the "Pushkin sonnet") is one of the landmarks of Russian literature. In the poem, the eponymous hero repudiates love, only to later experience the pain of rejection himself. Pushkin’s unique style proves timeless in its exploration of love, life, passion, jealousy, and the consequences of social convention.

Excellent translation of Pushkin's seminal work. Neville Jason is a pleasure to listen to, as always. Now I want to read Nabokov's translation of Onegin, for comparison.
