Historia
I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

What a sweet story
Revisado: 02-02-23
I don’t usually like listening to audiobooks that are dramatization’s acted by multiple people, but this book was exactly what I needed to listen to this week! It kept a smile on my face!

This was the perfect book to listen to this week. I had a lot to do, and I was feeling sorry for myself until I began the story. What an amazing main character!

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

One of my favorite books this year
Revisado: 01-08-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this tale. Usually I’m very picky about narrators, but this one was impeccable! By the end of the first chapter, I was fully enamored with molly the maid. Too bad she is a fictional character as I would very much like to be her friend.

Historia
It is a hot summer in rural Ireland. A child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm, not knowing when or if she will be brought home again. In the Kinsellas' house, she finds an affection and warmth she has not known and slowly, in their care, begins to blossom. But there is something unspoken in this new household—where everything is so well tended to—and this summer must soon come to an end.

Historia
On Such a Full Sea takes Chang-rae Lee’s elegance of prose, his masterly storytelling, and his long-standing interests in identity, culture, work, and love, and lifts them to a new plane. Stepping from the realistic and historical territories of his previous work, Lee brings us into a world created from scratch. Against a vividly imagined future America, Lee tells a stunning, surprising, and riveting story that will change the way listeners think about the world they live in. In a future, long-declining America, society is strictly stratified by class.

Hard to connect to main character

Historia
As this urgent, genre-defying book opens, a woman who has recently been elevated to prominence for her social media posts travels around the world to meet her adoring fans. She is overwhelmed by navigating the new language and etiquette of what she terms "the portal," where she grapples with an unshakable conviction that a vast chorus of voices is now dictating her thoughts. When existential threats--from climate change and economic precariousness to the rise of an unnamed dictator and an epidemic of loneliness--begin to loom, she posts her way deeper into the portal's void.

Written like a work of poetry
Revisado: 03-29-22
This book was written from the point of view of a young adult who is constantly scrolling on her phone. The writing is insightful, poetic, and left me laughing and crying. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author. While the story does not have a conflict leading to resolution plot I was amazed that I hung on her every word. (I am not a writer so please excuse this badly written review.)

Hawaiian words butchered but otherwise good
Revisado: 09-23-21
I like listening to Michener’s epic tales. However, I am from Hawaii originally, so hearing the narrator mispronounce Hawaiian words is not only annoying but confusing. I think he's talking about one place when he's actually talking about another. But I did enjoy his deep voice and good narration of the story. If this is ever re-recorded it would be great to have someone who knows how to pronounce the Hawaiian and Japanese words. Someone from Hawaii would be ideal.

Historia
Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Very helpful
Revisado: 08-01-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it very helpful. I would have given it more stars but…
Unfortunately the passage about BMI being created by the weight loss industry is not factual and in that way it is misleading to the many people whose weight does impact their health. However, I loved the continuation of that chapter about body positivity.
