What a profound experience
Revisado: 06-07-18
This classic piece of literature which I had read many many years ago I now reread with a life experience that brought closer scrutiny to the prose, the story, the history, the agony, the hope the pain, the determination and futile politics of greed.
Our politicians and business leaders should all compulsorily read this book as we head inexorably down a similar path...
Beautifully crafted
Profoundly moving
Sensitively read
I could not put it down.
The last sentences made me weep...

From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans comes an unforgettable edge-of-your-seat mystery that is at once heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human.

No too far fetched ... But a little undercooked.
Revisado: 07-23-15
The concept of this story really grabbed me when I set out listening and I enjoyed it really till the end with an expectation of something happening.
Perhaps the characters were not sufficiently filled out or perhaps the story line could have been worked over a little more.
This novel just lacked spunk I believe.

Historia
In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Three years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel is tending the grave of her newly lost infant when she hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up on shore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Such a deft tangle
Revisado: 01-19-15
What a delightful, warm, moving human drama covering the complexities of human nature in a most compelling story.
The reading was somewhat irritating in that the reader Noah (?) swallows the last part of the sentences and makes listening difficult. Perhaps the cadence of his voice is not suitable for this kind of recording as the lows are almost mumbled.

The historic background and the credible characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I wanted to read and think and then read some more.
Any additional comments?
Very interesting historic and geographical points in the book that made me research a little further. The underlying love story was poignant and added to the edginess of the characters wartime experiences

Ah Connelly is a winner. A ripping read!
Revisado: 11-07-13
What did you love best about The Brass Verdict?
It's was riveting, touching, aweful and compelling. Well researched and a great read. It just ended somewhat abruptly with what I felt were a few loose ends. Highly recommended.
What about Michael Brandon’s performance did you like?
Had to giggle at his feminine voices. But great reader.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The pain that Bosch felt when he first came out of the "death house" having viewed all the trophies.

What a read!
Revisado: 03-07-13
Where does Anna Karenina rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Well, I have to rate it near to the top in the Classical Category.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Anna Karenina?
When I realised that Anna was losing her mind.
What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?
Great
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The disconnect between Anna and Vronsky...he loved her and she was just so self absorbed that her jealousy rendered her irrational.
Any additional comments?
Oh what a great literary journey with Tolstoy's 'succulent' characters couched in history, politics, economic, agriculture, philosophy, culinary delight,s sex, drugs, royalty and fippary.

Gripping
Revisado: 09-17-12
If you could sum up Little Dorrit in three words, what would they be?
Compelling, fluent, beautiful.
What other book might you compare Little Dorrit to and why?
Nicholas Nickelby. Both have characterisations that are descriptively magnificent and story lines that 'race' along in a linguistically serpentine adventure.
Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?
William Dorrit ( little Dorrit's father).
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Funny .......but yes if the truth must be known I have taken to extra long walks just to listen.
Any additional comments?
Charles Dickens is my penchant at the moment. Simon Vance has made the journey just that much more colorful.
