Historia
Maya's shocked to discover it's not the heaven she imagined; in fact, a life of adventure begins the moment you die. In order to regain complete awareness and reunite with loved ones, all souls must review their previous lives. Maya plunges warily into her turbulent pasts as a sociopathic High Priest in ancient Egypt; an Irish boy enslaved by Vikings; and a doctor's wife forced to make an ethical stand in plague-ridden England. All the while, Maya yearns to be with those she cares about most, and worries that she hasn't learned all of heaven's most vital lessons.

Loved the premise
Revisado: 04-09-24
I enjoyed the author's thoughts on reincarnation and what one must go through if such a thing exists. The stories are well thought out and complete if you consider it's about multiple lives lived. The narrator does a tremendous job reeling in the listener and it is a different experience with each life or even with the spirit guide.

Maya continues to delve into her past lives after death, and strives to complete the tentative journey required to reunite with her loved ones in heaven. She must relive and explore her former incarnations as the scandalous and misunderstood Lucrezia Borgia in Renaissance Italy; a young stowaway on the doomed Spanish Armada fleet; and the rebellious Irish Robin Hood, Count Redmond O'Hanlon. Her companions prove truer while her enemies grow stronger as her bygone adventures spin forth.

Loved it!
Revisado: 04-09-24
I really have enjoyed not just the first book but this second one. My first thought was there was so much tragedy with these lives Maya lives but I realized with the learning of such things as devotion and sacrifice, that there cannot be tragedy without learning and living through it, or in some cases, dying through it. The author does a great job at getting the setting and story line right with each historical time in history. I guess we can only just imagine what one must endure since even with written history it is just a matter of perspective.

I enjoyed this story as the rest of the series. Although they are all different they find what is similar to bind them. Willoughby Close would be a nice place to live for sure

Oh My Gosh!!
Revisado: 12-05-21
This was the first I have read from this author. I have to tell you that it was so much more than a read. This was an experience. Very well written and researched and the narration was off the charts. I literally felt wrung out so many times and actually had to leave it all for a bit to absorb everything and to just breathe. The action is non-stop and keeps you at the edge of your seat. As other reviews have said, this belongs in a movie. The special effects would be crazy. Anyways, when I was finished, I felt sad that there wasn't more and exhausted because there was so much. It looks like I'm looking for more from this author.

I have enjoyed this series
Revisado: 08-21-21
First of all, let me say the narrator was great. I had the first book for a while before I played it and immediately sorry I waited so long. The whole series was truly enjoyable. The characters were diverse and very well defined. I laughed so hard at times and felt the stories flowed well. I have read and listened to many midlife stories and this one is my new favorite. I didn't feel like I was listening to the same book over again when getting to the next in the series and it has happened so many times before where I get bored. I hope there is another in this series for after this book, I felt at a loss of where to go next.
This particular book in the series was very well written and I thought the romantic scenes were too many, especially for the newly mated. What I really enjoyed was how the story came together and the characters played so well off each other. I like that the author brought in so many mythical beings and expanded on their history to where the reader wasn't left in the dark. I look forward to experiencing more from this author and maybe another in this series.

Historia
Gemma Smythe dedicated her life to the glory of battle. With her fellow War Monks, she worshipped the war gods, rained destruction on her enemies, and raised the dead when the fancy struck. Until her sister Keeley became the prophesied Blacksmith Queen, and Gemma broke faith with her order to journey to the Amichai Mountain and fight by Keeley's side. The Amichai warriors are an unruly, never-to-be-tamed lot, especially their leader-in-waiting, Quinn. But when the War Monks declare support for Gemma's ruthless sister Beatrix, the immaturity of her key ally's the least of her problems.

Long story but loving it
Revisado: 04-12-21
I was so excited to get to the next book in this series and it didn't disappoint. The book is so engaging that the reader/listener stays with the story and character which both are well developed. The author introduced new and exciting characters to go along with the ones I loved from the first book. If you loved Aiken's Dragonkin series, then you can not help but love this one. Highly recommended and I did enjoy the narration as well.

Loved this book
Revisado: 04-12-21
I really liked this book but I do enjoy Aiken's books. I was even more excited to realize that this was a new story involving well developed characters was set in the same world as the Dragonkin series. This story involved fresh new characters with a new story line. I love that it is on Audible since it's hard for me to sit and read novels since I care for my elderly parents. I was left wanting more after I was done with The Blacksmith Queen.

Great story but painful to listen to
Revisado: 10-18-20
I loved the story and it was well written. It was however, painful to listen to. The narrator gave a stilted conversation and read. It was like it was narrated as she was reading. There were no indications they were real conversation but a written script. The script was a good story though. I've seen this happen with other books where the writer does a great job and the narrator rips it to pieces. I have heard worse as well as better but narration like this does not help the listener want to continue with the story, no matter how good it is. I hope this writer moves forward but finds a different narrator.
