Pretty Fun Overall
Revisado: 08-11-24
This series is cute and a nice easy set of books to listen to on a long commute. And the narrator is pretty great. I do swear though, you could get drunk by chapter 3 if you took a shot every time someone in this book licks their lips or "scoffs" . I'm guess AI helped write this series or something. But, for a fun easy read, I recommend.

Getting Old
Revisado: 03-30-24
I'm on book 3 of this series and the main character's huge emphasis on her own limited world view, and her rather obnoxious judgments of other characters are getting to be too much. And this narrarator is new to the series and she's ridiculous. Her "accents" are terrible. Most of the people who are supposed to have German or other accents (Stephan, etc) magically don't have them here - and the people she tried to give accents sound like Muppets. Ah well, time to find another series.

Pretty Sloppy
Revisado: 08-10-23
For only $5, it was ok-ish. But for a 1 hour book, they spent waaaay too long introducing the author- I could feel my $5 wasting away as they rambled on about her. 😆 The book itself was nothing but a long list of 'tips' for visiting- no real narrative.
The tips were really sloppy - it would say something like "tips if you dont want to drink"... and then tell you what bars to go to and the cost of the cocktails. Or one tip would say "snacking isnt really acceptable in Toulouse" and then list 5 places to go "snack".
I did like that it had recommendations of specific places and offered what meals or drinks were good at each place. Overall, I'd give it a "meh, probably try to find another travel book."

Narrator is awful
Revisado: 05-23-23
The story is good but the narrator is absolutely terrible. I managed to stay with her for the first few chapters. and by the 4th or 5th chapter, I sped up the narrator rate, hoping that would help. I finally gave up, skipped to the end and quit. I'll have to see if I can find this to read on Kindle.

Narrator is Terrible
Revisado: 09-25-22
Ugh. I tried so hard - and I'll probably force myself to finish (am over halfway through) because I enjoy the story line. But I highly recommend reading the actual book, not through Audiobooks. Her 'voices' for the older characters were actually painful, they were so whiny and high pitched. And her male voices were ridiculous. The story line is mostly typical for this author and is enjoyable.

Series took a downturn
Revisado: 08-14-22
I got a kick out of this series and have been going through them in order. Some of them had some moments that swung from 'cutesy' to downright obnoxious but this one stayed firmly in the obnoxious category. The sarcasm the narrator always mentions is overdone, rude, and over the top. I got absolutely sick of the cattiness and constant bickering. It took over the storyline and I got to the point that I hated everyone in the book by the end. I'm bummed to say that I doubt I will bother with any more in this series.

In fairness, I've read this series before and loved it then, but love it even more all these years later. I wasnt sure how I'd feel about Barbara R as a narrator (she can be a little over the top) but this was just perfect!
