Feels shallow and rushed put still interesting
Revisado: 01-06-23
The story jumps from perspective to perspective without you getting used to the perspective you just switched to. It really likes to jump around making the experience feel shallow not giving you enough time to get attached to the characters. This book would be better if it took its time and stuck to one story at a time then told the others. Kind of felt like the writer rushed through everything this time around. The first book did and let us grow attached to Morgan and only introduced new characters at the end chapters to setup for the next book but in this book it just kept introducing more and more overwhelming the reader.
Narrator was good but could be better and pitching their voice to separate male/female characters. Also needs to google words she is unsure of pronouncing. There were quite a few words she misspoke and kept getting wrong that took me a minute to realize what she was trying to say.
I am still interested in where the story goes.

Story drags on a bit in certain places
Revisado: 01-03-23
There are many chapters that could just be narrowed down to "he gets stronger" with unnessecary explainations for little things that hold value for a second then it's no longer referenced.
other than that I do enjoy the world and characters and will continue the story.

Can't wait for next one
Revisado: 12-22-22
phenomenal writing and pacing. I love the detail the writer put into background characters even if they are brief. really shows that the main character is in a living world and is not the center of it. too many books make the main character the only focus.
the amount of time spent on topics/action/interactions is just enough to interest you without dragging on and becoming boring. I really like how this was written I cannot wait for the next one.

Started strong ended overwhelmed
Revisado: 12-20-22
There was a cool start to the series but after the 2nd book it just started throwing everything and the kitchen sink at you. Never really got too attached to any characters and the romance seemed a bit forced. By the end of the series I just wanted it to be over but still wanted to know what happened instead of returning it.
At some points it was very edgy writing and dumb decisions/dialogue.
Overall it was okay and worth a credit to kill time.

It is okay
Revisado: 12-13-22
The writing was just really spread out amongst characters that I never got enough information about a single one to grow attached to any.
They all just had enough background to push the story but not much more than that.
Amy did a great job as always.

In the future: A united Earth, to deal with the problem of population control, divides its population into classes of citizen and non-gratis. To be born a non-gratis means a life of little freedoms and the constant possibility of being assigned to work on a colony. Lacking citizenship, every aspect of their life is controlled from where they live down to marriage and childbearing regulations. The only possible escape from life as a non-gratis is to qualify for one of the limited slots available for entrance into the military.

Felt rushed but still good
Revisado: 10-14-22
There were a lot of details in the book that felt rushed to get through and you have to forgive/give benefit of the doubt to characters when coming to conclusions. Characters just coming to a thought that would progress the story in such a way that would just push the story along without much of a conflict between characters that would otherwise be stand offish if not enemies.
I liked the world and society in the book.
The sex scenes kept moving language from romantic to vulgar which was jarring. There are ways to write a sex scene that would show a more romantic/sensual interaction and ways to write a more vulgar faster paced heavier interaction. But in this, the language and writing would jump between the two harshly which would just make me laugh more than aroused.
It was a neat one off story that kept me engaged enough to listen to the whole book. could have been a lot better though.
Tess Irondale is always a treat to listen to but she made quite a few pronunciation mistakes in this.

kinda drags on
Revisado: 08-22-22
the description and thought process of justifying everything the character does just kind of goes on and on. you can zone out for a while without missing anything.
It would help if the narrator changed tone of voice or beat when going from inner monologue to outward speech.
Enjoyed the series so far but there is so much fluff now I am not sure I will get the next one.
