Narrator Was awesome as usual. The story wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t engaging to the point that it kept my attention. It was very much a So-so plot. But it wasn’t done badly it just may be needed more conflict.

I can’t tell you exactly why I didn’t like this book besides the fact the the hero is very one dimensional and the heroine is a weak disappointment. I finished the book with a general sense of irritation, anger at having wasted the time and overall dissatisfaction.

Could barely finish it. Story goes nowhere and the big intrigue falls flat. Seems like the author got bored writing this.

The weird way they did they echo chamber for internal thoughts was annoying and took away from the story...which was sadly lacking and unoriginal. Characters were horribly shallow and poorly developed.

Finished it out of morbid curiosity

Very disappointing read. Story started off with promise but the stilted storytelling ruined it. Felt as though the author did so much research it completely stifled her imagination.

Narrator is horrible. The long drawn out pronunciation and weird breathy pauses ruined it. The story was lacking. Couldn’t tell if this was supposed to be modern day or regency. Couldn’t get past the third chapter.

Not happy EJ, Not happy at all...

This started off as a good story that had good potential to be a good read - lots of gratuitous descriptive sex - and then the wedding night came. I had trouble finishing this book after that point (and that says a lot since it’s an audio book). The way he treats Charlotte and the way that she just takes it really pissed me off. Then he comes back and does the same thing again and she doesn’t stand up to him just wilts away. Alex was an unmitigated ass - a selfish, spoiled bully. He wasn’t interesting at all and I dare say he had no redeeming qualities. The ending also left me nonplussed. She just takes him back with no discussion about his lack of respect - she just tells him “I will always forgive you no matter what you do”. Wow! Way to invite him to continue to treat you like a doormat, verbally abuse you and use you as his own private sex slave. Not EJs best work. I don’t want to listen to the rest of the trilogy. This may be a romance novel but us readers aren’t stupid and are certainly not that thirsty - no self respecting woman would applaud this story. EJ is capable of much better than this.

I would not recommend this book to anyone. The main characters are rubbish and the writing style is...irritating. All that I could have dealt with - after all, every book can’t be a winner. It was the audible narrator’s voice that pushed me over the edge. Her pronunciation and over emphatic emphasis on certain words drove me nuts. If you spent money on the audio book you have my sympathies. I can’t finish listening to the book.
