I got about 2/3 through this before I quit listening. This is more just the author’s thoughts and ramblings about things not related to the teachings and beliefs of Tibetan Buddhism. I wanted to like this book, but it is not a beginners guide to Buddhism. If you want politics, personalities and anecdotes, you might like this. If you’re looking for a serious title on understanding Tibetan Buddhism, look elsewhere.

At first I found this book interesting. As an American and someone who studies The Troubles and the Peace Process I thought this started out in an interesting way and so I thought this would make for an interesting listen. As the title indicates, this is a book written from the security forces point of view. It gives a fairly balanced account at the start of The Troubles and how the Northern Ireland government mishandled the unrest of the late 1960s. But at some point this just turns into a completely one sided and false narrative about how the RUC were professional police doing a fair job, which is total nonsense. The author makes many false claims - many of which even the British government has admitted were their fault, the army's fault and the fault of the RUC.

Northern Ireland was an apartheid state, not quite as bad as South Africa but still an apartheid state, and the RUC was the chief tool of the NI government (before it fell) and the British State of maintaining the apartheid they'd created. His blathering on about how professional the security forces were in NI is refuted by facts and history. So his take on things really falls into the category of misinformation at best, his delusion at worst.

I will grant that there has been a lot of propaganda throughout the years of The Troubles and the peace process from all sides. This is just propaganda from someone with an agenda to defend the security forces. If you listen to this with that in mind, it is still an interesting listen from the point of view of the security forces, but just be ready to wade through a lot of washing over and absolution of the very bad conduct of the security forces in what was a period of time where most of the sides involved acted with very bad conduct.

Peacerunner is an outstanding book on the history of the US involvement in the Northern Ireland peace process! I loved every bit of it and was a little bummed out when I got to the end. I think some might feel it's a little slanted towards the Irish/Nationalist/Republican side, but the author details how much they worked to include the Unionist/Loyalist players in the talks and decision making.

If the producers told the narrator "your job is to sound like a computer and annoy the listener into giving up" then this recording is a home run. I was listening to it in the car and it was PAINFUL to hear that guy's voice. I don't get how the people in the sound booth lived through that experience, at least I can turn it off. I can't even rate the contents of the book because I couldn't only stomach 2 of 17 hours of the narrator.

This is a great summary... I listen to it at 2x speed at least once a week. Well worth the small amount I paid for it. They hit all the main points and it is very motivating.

This was a solid summary of a very complex and in depth book. I liked how the author used examples from the modern world in conjunction with a book written in the early 20th century. I would recommend this book summary to anyone wanting to learn the concepts of Think and Grow Rich.

What disappointed you about If You Meet the Buddha On the Road, Kill Him?

I found very little of substance here... lots of long, drawn out stories followed by an attempt to draw a lesson or piece of information to learn from, but mostly it falls flat. To be fair this edition is SO abridged that I wonder if the actual book would deliver a totally different message. But for this audiobook, thumbs down.

What didn’t you like about MIchael McConnohie’s performance?

The music in the background was both distracting and made the narrator hard to hear.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyed at the lack of real substance.

Great stuff here, especially for the price, well worth the few bucks and the hour of my time. Looking forward to more Grant Cardone.
