My expectations were very high after the first two books, but This book surpassed them. The continued development of the plot was impressive without many slow parts. Roth does an extraordinary job at giving just the right amount of detail while providing closure to each part of her story.

As with all of the books, the ending leaves you excited for the next one.

I highly recommend this book to any fan with the following interests: futuristic sci-fi, adventure, drama, strategy, good vs. evil, morality lessons, tragedy, or just plainly a good story.

As much as I enjoyed these books, I am not as needy for a fourth as I have been on completion of the other books. On the other hand, I will likely get the fourth audio book since I have enjoyed the writing style of Ross.

I was expecting a disappointing sequel as I read some reviews before getting into this novel. Many, as I was, annoyed with the high school like relationship between the protagonists, but this story is so much more than that element. It actually makes the first novel just seem like an appetizer to the real "meat and potatoes" of the story.

There are excellent twists that fit the plot well. The characters are developed further, but I became confused who to cheer for throughout the novel. Not predictable, and I applaud the author for that.

I did not think there would be enough momentum for me to read the third novel in the series, but I am pleasantly surprised. Buying allegiance now...

Better than the Hunger Games?

Probably not better than the Hunger games, but I'll have to see how the sequels support the story - although I am sure readers will enjoy it if they found the hunger games fascinating. There is almost too much similarity between the novels: strong willed female protagonist, factions of poorer populations, and even a Peter and Gabe. The general similarities may have decreased this book's ranking for me, but the details of the plot are different enough to enjoy this quick read.

I really like the overall plot of this book as the main character finds out who she truly is. There was too much romance and love story in this novel for my taste, but overall a an excellent audiobook. Best audience is probably college student and older.

Although this author seemed to be quite the intelligent individual and chose a different specialty than me, I was able to learn a lot from his experience. His hardships that brought continuos doubt, his struggle to become a compassionate physician in the midst of trying patients, and his honesty through it all.
It is a great read for any medical student, soon to be intern, or family member of a patient that struggles to understand the perspective of a physician.
I'll read this one again after my internship. It has inspired me to keep a journal, if not just mental notes throughout my training.

Would you listen to Things That Matter again? Why?

I'm planning on it. It was such a dense book with so much wisdom that I know I missed a lot of the points. Krauthammer is obviously an intelligent man with quite the vocabulary, sometimes making it difficult to listen to and understand thoroughly - especially only reading in 20 minute increments...if that's your style.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Things That Matter?

Krauthammer goes into great detail about the Jewish people group. Mostly, I will remember their successes and impressive history.

What about Charles Krauthammer and George Newbern ’s performance did you like?

The author's voice made his points seem that much more intelligent. Newbern did a fine job, just wasn't the authentic Krauthammer sound...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My reaction was one more of awe and wonder. I found myself thinking deeply about a majority of his points.

Any additional comments?

I plan to reread. Next time in print, to highlight and make notes.

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Mercedes the most enjoyable?

William Patton narrated the perspective of retired detective Hodges with elegance and accuracy of what I pictured the character to be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jamal, by far. Driven, intelligent young kid, who has the spunk of a teenager but wisdom of a well experienced retiree - displayed by his "split personality" of Tyrone and Jamal. Second Favorite: Holly. She surprised me the most. Introduced into the story as an annoying character, Holly begins to flourish into a key element to the detective team, whose personality gels the team, providing the missing components with her own quirkiness.

Which character – as performed by Will Patton – was your favorite?

Mr. Hodges. Even though Brady was an incredible villain, who still creeps me out, Patton's detective dialect and inflection is spot on.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"They walk among us"

Any additional comments?

Excellent novel. May be inappropriate for younger readers due to the perversion of the villain's mind: sexual relationship with his mother and the desire to grotesquely kill innocent people.

Where does One Nation rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It will stay in the top five for a while. It is a short read, perfect for a one time trip or background to a home DIY project. Dr. Carson gives insight to his beliefs, politically and morally in a well organized fashion that is easy to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Nation?

Dr. Carson gives much credit to his success to his tenacious mother who made no excuses for herself and did not expect the children she raised to make any for themselves either.

Which scene was your favorite?

I am such a fan of his recent National Prayer Breakfast Speech. This was a perfect way to open the book.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

This book really challenged me to look back at documents and biographies of our founding fathers. Not only do I appreciate their sacrifice, but also yearn to truly know the vision and plan they had for our country. Are we, the people, satisfying their vision?

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this easy, quick read to readers that desire a solution to the many issues that face our country. Also, this is an excellent overview into understanding the motivations and person that Dr. Carson is, as a political leader, or role model.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to my friends with the following descriptions: history buffs, vaccine antagonist/protagonist, health care providers, future scientists. Incredible history of FDR and Dr. Salk.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Splendid Solution?

The beginning of the book was incredibly inspiring. Understanding the quirkiness of future Dr. Salk, makes you appreciate differences in others (and yourself) that make you who you are, and quite perfect for the occupation you choose.

Have you listened to any of Michael Prichard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Killing a virus, Saving a population.

Any additional comments?

I must admit, the first couple chapters would have received 5/5 stars as it was quickly becoming a favorite read, however once it became detailed with minutia of lab procedures and politics of lab recognition, the book slowed down drastically. I would still recommend this book to many, but do prepare yourself for the tweaking of details about laboratory procedures. On the other hand, this novel made me appreciate the benefit of a vaccine, in the midst of a society that may hesitate/see only the bad in them.

Would you try another book from Jessica Valenti and/or Emily Beresford?

Emily Beresford, yes. Jessica Valenti, possibly. Ms. Beresford did a great job expressing the passionate tone that Ms. Valenti keeps throughout the book. Even though I think Ms. Valenti is a very talented and intelligent author, I tended to disagree with a majority of her points about the role of a mother. I would imagine that any other book would have the same political party drive, in which I would appreciate her well supported points, but disagree in the end.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Mostly annoyance. I felt like she was proposing mothers are entitled to a life away from her children, after they have them. She seemed to complain a lot, generalizing all men as worthless and irresponsible, and exhausting the point that raising children doesn't always lead to happiness.

Any additional comments?

With all the negative comments listed above, I must say that a book like this is good to read once in a while. To listen to someone you don't agree with - and might I add, one who has done their homework - can only be beneficial, but you must be able to withstand the complaining.
I'd imagine most men would NOT enjoy reading this book and most women with hopes of a beautiful motherhood will only find their experience tarnished. I believe this book will make certain mothers hesitate to enjoy and second guess the truly good times of motherhood. Perhaps it may help mothers that are struggling to fight their urge of believing their child will make them happy all the time, but anyone who has sat in a plane with a crying kid next to them realizes children aren't angels...or a multitude of examples that kid's can drive you crazy...even as a bystander.
I think the average mother is more keen on the expectations of motherhood than the author gives them credit.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Reverent. Appreciative. Humbled.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I know the performer was attempting to imitate a southern Texan, but his success in this made for a dragging start to the audiobook. Almost didn't finish it. But absolutely no regrets for continuing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh>Cry. The one liners were well placed in serious parts of the books. It made you appreciate the camaraderie of the team as well as give your heart a break from the domino effect of misfortune and trial.

Any additional comments?

This novel increased my appreciation of the sacrifice that our men and women in the service make. Sincerely, thank you.
