Historia
On September 11, 1999, humanity made a monumental discovery in the vastness of space. Scientists uncovered an asteroid of immense scientific importance—a colossal celestial entity. As massive as an aircraft carrier and towering as high as the iconic Empire State Building, this cosmic titan was later named Bennu. Remarkable for much more than its size, Bennu belonged to a rare breed of asteroids capable of revealing the essence of life itself. But just as Bennu became a beacon of promise, researchers identified a grave danger.

Historia
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

Really lovely story. Made me hungry. I must’ve eaten Korean food every other day while listening to this book.
I always enjoy when the author reads.

Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon is part memoir, part investigation, and unlike any creative portrait you’ve ever heard before. Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

Amazing life
Revisado: 01-01-24
I could listen to Paul Simon all day long. One of my favorite takeaways during this experience was finding new music. Simon goes into great depth about so many varied instruments and styles of music - I found myself pausing to listen to his references.

A beautiful story
Revisado: 11-08-23
I love the story. Well written. Romantic, fierce, dramatic.
I also enjoyed the narrator. Easy to hear. I appreciated that I didn’t have to constantly adjust the volume as is the case with so many narrators.

Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 04-26-23
This was a lovely book with plenty of character depth and complexity. I enjoyed growing with AJ and his daughter as his life grew and he learned to live with his traumas. Any book lover will love this story.
My only complaint was the varied volume of the narrator, Scott Brick. While he did an excellent job performing the characters and reading the story, I am slightly hard of hearing and enjoy listening in my car (all electric, so near silent). I could not keep the volume steady. I was constantly adjusting up and down, minute to minute, because Mr. Brick varies his volume too much for me. I almost gave up but the story got me early on and I couldn't quit. Fair warning for hearing-challenged folks.

Fascinating but a little heavy handed
Revisado: 02-19-22
I loved hearing about Smiths experiences and the details of his acting/music career. His growth as a human being would have been amazing to learn if it had not been told through the lens of an ego trip. I appreciate the self awareness and attempts he makes at recognizing his vulnerabilities but he seems to continuously fall short of actual gratitude and growth.
It left me feeling awkward and uncomfortable with his telling of his own story. I look forward to a second book someday when he’s done some more growing and self-reflection.
