Historia
Anthony Opoka and Florence Okori are coming of age in Uganda in the 1990s. Outstanding students, they believe in being good humans before they are kidnapped and forced into the fanatical Lord’s Resistance Army. In a legion of young recruits, no one gets closer than Anthony to powerful messianic warlord Joseph Kony and his darkest secrets. To stay sane as he spirals through chaos, Anthony clings to his childhood lessons about being a good human. Florence’s upbringing grounds her, too, helping her keep her dreams alive even as she’s pulled deeper into the insanity of Kony’s war.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 02-17-25
This was one of the two best books I’ve listened to on Audible over the last year (the other being Barbara Kingsolver’s Demon Copperhead). The story is terrifying, heart wrenching, and uplifting.

Underdeveloped Characters
Revisado: 11-02-24
While the book moved at a good clip, several key characters were woefully undeveloped. This made the story disconnected at points and left the antagonist very two dimensional.

Historia
Philip K. Dick's impassioned final novel is a wild and visionary alternate history of the United States. It is 1969, and a paranoid president has convulsed America in a vicious war against imaginary internal enemies. As the country slides into fascism, a struggling science-fiction writer named Philip K. Dick is trying to keep from becoming one of that war's casualties.

Philip K. Dick — Visionary
Revisado: 10-09-24
Unlike a lot of Philip K. Dick‘s writings, this one is very accessible and engaging. Parallels between the storyline in this novel and recent/current political events is alarming. Phil keep dick accurately predicted that the vote from the middle of the country could give rise to an authoritarian government. I just hope the rest of this novel doesn’t turn out to accurately predict what will happen next.

Since its publication in 1960, William L. Shirer’s monumental study of Hitler’s German empire has been widely acclaimed as the definitive record of the 20th century’s blackest hours. A Legotimate Classic
Revisado: 09-08-24
Hubris. Deceit. Hatred. Cowardice. Megalomaniac.
The same traits of citizens and political leaders we see in the US as we close the first quarter of the 21st century.
Shirer closes this book with a warning about the Germans as a people. This story, however, is more universal than he thought.

Historia
Find a missing book. That was the job the woman in the Doc Martens gave us. Easy money, right? Only now it seems she's actually an ancient, powerful sorcerer, and the book is a Book of Power that doesn't want to be found. It wants to tear reality apart at the seams, and it'll use anyone it can to do it. So now we've got one spectacularly displeased sorcerer, a hungry, still-missing book, a dentist with bad hygiene, and a neighbourhood having some reality issues to deal with. Plus about a day before the book turns our world - and us - inside out.

Fun story with good characterization
Revisado: 07-07-24
I bought this book on a whim and I am glad I did. The story fits into the humorous fantasy genre. The characters are well-developed and likable. While the resolution of the story is predictable, that is part of what makes it fun.

Historia
As the new owner of the worst business in history, Jack has a lot on his plate. His self-appointed “biggest fan” wants to finally meet, and won’t take no for an answer. The annoying cultists are back and cultier than ever. Plus, there’s a creature living under the building's crawlspace that must be fed regularly (or else). To top it all off, the entire town’s collective memories have been haphazardly rewritten, and Jack's placement in these recollections are decidedly unflattering.

Running Out of Steam
Revisado: 02-07-24
As with most series, this one is running out of steam creatively. The story became increasingly disorganized as the book progressed. I believe the author was trying to be intentional in the use of non-– linearity, but it was incredibly frustrating and offputting.

Better Than Book 2
Revisado: 12-03-23
I like a series where the characters continue to develop. It seems to me that most series stop character development somewhere in book 2. This series continues to allow the characters to develop.

Lost In Space; Don’t Waste A Credit
Revisado: 11-06-23
I have no idea why this book has so many five star reviews. Up until the last six hours, the story is interesting, and the characters are fairly well defined. However, somewhere around the time there six hours left, the story takes a hard turn, and becomes almost incomprehensible. Oh, and it becomes far less interesting, too.
I gritted my metaphorical teeth and listened to the end of the book, wondering why so many people gave it five stars. Fortunately, I was in the car, so those are five hours I don’t have to worry about never getting back.
To say that the plot has loose threads and uses hackneyed science fiction tropes to get to the conclusion is an understatement.

Historia
Reinhard Heydrich is widely recognized as one of the great iconic villains of the 20th century, an appalling figure even within the context of the Nazi leadership. Chief of the Nazi Criminal Police, the SS Security Service, and the Gestapo, ruthless overlord of Nazi-occupied Bohemia and Moravia, and leading planner of the "Final Solution," Heydrich played a central role in Hitler's Germany.

A dry recitation of facts
Revisado: 06-03-23
Seriously. This is a dry recitation of facts about Heydrich’s life. The author almost steadfastly refuses to ask “why?”. The author chose a narrow lane and stuck to it. The only things I can tell you about Heydrich is that he may have been motivated by power and that he was an absent husband and father.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Well worth a credit
Revisado: 12-17-22
This novel moves along nicely, and it’s protagonist is not another outsider.
The audiobook is better than the sum of its parts.
I docked the narration one star because one character is said to sound like Darth Vader. He did not.
I docked the story 1 star for the numerous H. P. Lovecraft/Cthulhu references. The antagonist failed to live up to the build up.
Notwithstanding that, the plot held together quite well.
