Historia
David Sheff's story is a first: a teenager's addiction from the parent's point of view, a real-time chronicle of the shocking descent into substance abuse and the gradual emergence into hope.
Before meth, Sheff's son, Nic, was a varsity athlete, honor student, and award-winning journalist. After meth, he was a trembling wraith who stole money from his eight-year-old brother and lived on the streets. With haunting candor, Sheff traces the first warning signs, the attempts at rehabilitation, and, at last, the way past addiction. He shows us that, whatever an addict's fate, the rest of the family must care for one another, too, lest they become addicted to addiction.

Bravo for the ugly truth
Revisado: 04-21-23
Most reviews claim it dragged on or it’s bs ext. I appreciate the length I appreciated the mention of the multiple instances of the relapse and hope and relapse and hope and I understand those who are annoyed with the authors inability to walk away for a seemingly obvious outcome for his son. Listening to this fathers account being a methamphetamine addict myself broke me in a way I can assure you I have never been broken before. Hearing the pain and worry of the parent who constantly bail their son out sending him to the best rehabs never giving up despite his lies and thefts and overdoses was harrowing. The most shocking revelation for me was the description of the upheaval of the father and his other children. I never once thought about the pain and fear my divorced parents went through putting their heads together trying to save me from myself over and over and over again. My brother and sisters got half of what they deserved since I took up so much time with my addiction and I don’t think I ever even thought about it. I wanted to scream at him that his son wants to do it for him wants the life his dad wants for him that he trying harder than he will ever know that he’s not lying he means it when he says he hates himself that’s he really believes this time I will succeed he wants it more than anything in the world. I’m going to listen to the sons book now I know I wrote this for myself more than a review but in the end I must say… thank you for this book and I’m sorry

I literally have listened to over 2 years in audible time which proves I need a life but also I know a bad narrator and she did a great job. I get not listening due to the voice (cough:the crazy rich Asian series book2) when you picked this book you wanted light and fun and to hope and it delivered!!

I loved this whole book. I loved that the author took their time to really get each character right! I could visually see this book play out movie style while listening and I loved it.

I enjoy viewing psychology through the eyes of psychopaths. Just the different Nuances that most people do naturally they have to work hard to imitate. Anyhow I enjoyed the book

Don’t speak if you don’t know.
Revisado: 11-02-22
It’s obvious from the reviews of hatred for this book that most people are lucky and have no idea what it is like to be in an abusive relationship. All those who hate Vanessa and are disgusted with her mothering have no idea what it’s like to have to fight for her life daily while desperately trying to protect her son. Oh she should have protected him better… how?! I think the author has truly grasped the very real thoughts and emotions of a battered and broken child who had to grow up to fast. Yes it’s hard to listen to but by no means is it unrealistic. It extremely accurate to the thoughts fears and actions of a survivor. I don’t wish this terrible lifestyle on anyone but I would ask those lucky enough to never know the trauma of abuse to reserve their uneducated opinions.

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Revisado: 09-10-22
I obviously loved Pride and Prejudice and as I am sure like most people also couldn't stand the ridiculous plights of Lydia Bennett. I love the tone and the progression of Lydia's life in this book. I love that she had so many faults and yet I found myself not only identifying with her but rooting for her and believe it or not Wickham! Bravo

This book makes we want to join a book club
Revisado: 09-01-22
I truly appreciate a story with real and raw confessions. I can hear a lot of things that people never say out loud expressed. I love how real and raw it was. I didn’t care for the main character I wanted to hear Verity all Verity but I do like how they used (I can’t even remember the main character name as she was so insignificant to me) her to tell Verity’s story. Although who the hell would take that long to read that type of manuscript and keep it to herself? I loved the ending and thought about it for hours coming to my own conclusion. I enjoy books where the reader needs to decide for themselves. It makes me feel like I am on a jury and given all the evidence and I need to decide i whom I believe.

Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.
