pretty good.
Revisado: 04-01-20
I rather enjoyed this production. I had not read the tales of beedle the Bard previously. I was surprised about the gruesome nature of one of the stories. that is the only reason I gave it a four out of five. everything else was fantastic

Historia
Rolf, son of Hiarandi the Unlucky, is a character who exemplifies the effect of Christ's teachings upon the Icelandic people during their heroic age. The book is set in Iceland in the days when Christianity has come to the island though the old customs still linger. Hiarandi, at the urging of his wife, does an unprecedented thing: he lights a signal fire on a dangerous point of his land, thereby challenging the accepted custom which places lucrative salvage at higher value than the saving of life.

fantastic in almost all aspects
Revisado: 01-25-20
this is one of my favorite early 20th century books. granted, I haven't read a ton..
there are a couple sections that are a little dry, all in all it's a thrilling tale of ghosts, villains, heroes, misfortunes, and more.

nostalgic, but lacking.
Revisado: 01-28-19
In a similar vein as Kim Possible, this reboot of Carmen Sandiego has some fun adventure. I miss a more villainous Carmen Sandiego, but hope it revives a character I loved for a new generation.

Historia
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

wonderful book and wonderfully read
Revisado: 11-16-18
If you want a classic monster story, this is for you. If you want a wonderful cast to read it, this is for you. If you want a book exploring 19th century England's attitudes toward sexual deviance, this is for you.
there are sensual themes including pedophilia, infidelity, and rape.
in other words, the book can be read on several levels. If you can get past some slightly archaic ideas (like being raped makes you unclean), this book is great at all of them.

Ivanhoe but fast paced
Revisado: 05-12-18
I don't have adequate words to describe how much I loved this book. The story was compelling and fast paced while remaining wonderful story telling. The setting of medieval France was both historically accurate and fantastic. It is nice to have a hero who really is a hero. so often in books of today, heroes are full of flaws in order to be relatable. The Red Keep's hero, Conan, is heroic, chivalrous, cunning, and someone I both aspire and look up to. I fully intend to listen to it again and again.
If there was any flaw, it is that the depiction of violence is not sugar coated.

Good, but not great
Revisado: 05-10-18
I enjoyed this book and Tim Curry did a great job once again, but at times the story drug. It didn't help that the main protagonist was frustrating to listen to with his whining. But still, the book was a pleasure to listen to

Great story, good performance
Revisado: 04-27-18
This story is classic and as interesting as it is well thought out. I was quickly swept up in the world of Prydain. Lloyd Alexander's work is reminiscent of the Lord of the Rings. But rather than inspired by Nordic myth, Prydain is reminiscent of Wales.
My only frustration with the narration was some of the voices used. One or two of the characters are simply painful to listen to. Besides that, all-star performance.
