Historia
Modern life in the digital world is full of sounds, words, and images bombarding us 24/7. All these distractions can make it a challenge for young children to focus, quiet their minds, and wind down when it’s time for bed. After a full day of nonstop stimulation, it may not be easy for them to simply fall asleep. Children adore bedtime stories. A good story helps set the scene for a child’s dreams.

Alex finds herself on the shore of a distant place - a world unfamiliar. A world of fantasy and magic. A world that is a game. NPCs and players all insist she is an NPC, a part of the world. A part of the code of the game. A part of the fantasy to entertain the players. She rejects the idea, for her memories can't just be lies. Could they? Alex sets out to establish herself in the sandbox fantasy world, to find her identity, and to weather the storm between the coming players and the inhabitants of the new world.

Really fun story, great performance.
Revisado: 10-19-19
I really enjoyed this one. I liked the characters and the plot, and ending and final parts battles are so ridiculous they are amazing. I appreciate that in the end all the loose ends are tied up and that this is not a half finished novella branded as part one of a series never to get a part two. . It is a complete narrative with good development and decent pacing. While it doesn't stray too far of the core concept of MC starts at level 0 and eventually is unstoppable, the journey to that point felt far more earned and explained than many other tales I've read in this genre.
All that said while the performance itself was very good, I really enjoyed the narrator's voice and inflections, it needed another editing pass. There are a few areas where a mistake is made and the phrase is restarted but it was not edited out. Also some background noise and mic bumping. I really feel that the performance deserves a better edit because otherwise the delivery was very enjoyable and I would love to hear this narrator again.
I really have nothing bad to say about this other than I feel like there is potential here for an even better story so I will be on the lookout for this author in the future.

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare.

A well performed disappointment.
Revisado: 01-23-19
I recently picked up the first two books of this series and while I had some small complaints and questioned the main character a bit, it was a fun series with a protagonist I liked. He was a rough and tumble mostly good guy that was primarily in it for self preservation and protecting his friends.
This book felt like it was written lazily, and was a bit half-baked as it really didn't feel like it gelled with the rest of the series thus far. My complaints lie with the plot, a few cringe bits of content and character development so it is impossible to site examples without spoiling the novel for those that wish to try it for themselves.
In general the entire premise of how Atticus interacts with the world and what his goals are get mangled and no longer align with what was put forth in the preceding material. We no longer get a defensive and paranoid generally good guy, instead we get an aggressive, reckless and foolhardy brigand who does some serious mental gymnastics to justify his actions. The sexism and weirdly American (for a 2100 year old Celt) centric machismo/homophobia get turned up a wee bit, and at one point he feints ignorance in a possible human(godly) trafficking/kidnapping situation he sets forth in motion. In general I'm left really disliking a character I quickly fell in love with just a couple of books ago.
In general that's how I felt about the whole experience, there was very little of the best supporting characters in the series (Granuaile and Oberon), and a whole bunch of disappointing and mediocre plot points at the breakneck pace of incomprehension that seemed only loosely strung together. In general it felt like a bucket full of "wouldn't it be neat if... " ideas that had Atticus shoehorned into then with a whole bunch of filler to putty up the holes.
Maybe I misinterpreted the character in the first two books, I allowed for the feigned idiot act but was he really this much of an A-hole and I just didn't notice? If so, I feel that the narrative did me a disservice in failing to clearly represent this character to me. Regardless I am now left wondering if it is worth my time to continue with this series.

Lord Kadorax Darkarrow was born on Earth, but in Agglor, he's the highest-level assassin anyone can find. The leader of the famed Blackened Blades, he's made a name for himself, built a kingdom of sorts, and only had to respawn once along the way. Then a rogue band of jackals sends him all the way back to a dreary tavern in a tiny village to start over at level one. Hellbent on revenge, Kadorax sets out on a path littered with bodies - level up, find the jackals, slay their god!

A fun diversion in an interesting MMO style world
Revisado: 07-27-18
Overall this was a quick and enjoyable story, this world has an interesting game system and the mechanics are satisfying but the leveling and power scope is less defined than I would like. We have no idea what a level 73, 45, or 10 means in the grand scheme when we don’t know the level cap or if it is an open ended leveling system.
I found the characters to be difficult to connect to, the main character’s backstory is disappointingly left unexplored, and the sidekicks are not really developed beyond sidekicks. Since the nature of the game world is not clearly defined (is it a game, another planet, or a parallel dimension?) it makes it hard to understand if people like Brina are supposed to be scripted NPCs, players, or natives of another world. I believe the emotional detachment to death and how quickly people get over tragedy stems from the respawn feature of the world. Near the end of the book we do begin to explore more into these points but I feel it would be more helpful near the set-up.
The plot is pretty simple the liner summary basically gives you everything you need, this isn’t really a bad thing as it actually conveys the experience you get in a single player RPG or even a MSQ focused MMO. My biggest complaint is simply that the book ends too soon and it doesn’t quite feel finished it’s unfortunately anticlimactic in that aspect
Now, it seems like I have a lot of negative things to say but I really did enjoy it and got exactly what I expected from this novel and exactly what I expect from a litRPG; It is a solid entry in the genre and if you, like I do, enjoy a bit of video game inspired fiction and don’t really mind not over analyzing the writing then this is what you’re looking for.
As for the narrator, it took some getting used to the man’s tone. It isn’t bad it’s just quite dissimilar to many of the narrators I listen to. I found his pacing and deliver steady and reasonably quick, my main complaint is that I felt some dialogue was lacking the emphasis that the description presented. A good example of this is when he says in a normal emphasis or volume” ‘we need to run’ She Yelled.” Those small annoyances aside I enjoyed the performance and felt it was adequate for the material.
This is the author’s first entry in the series and I think there is a lot of room for growth and a lot of potential in this world and the characters, particularly in the main character’s mysterious new class. The author has left quite a few options open so I am interested in seeing what direction this takes.

Revisado: 07-20-18
Such a frustrating entry, so slow and borderline uninteresting, such an extended trek through tangled weeds of mediocre teenaged angst romance and overly complicated political scheming, a 50 chapter journey that had me second guessing my love for the first book. Followed by 10 chapters in which Sanderson smashes me in the face and plays twister with my emotions and expecting all wrapped in an adrenaline soak roller coaster conclusion.
I was disappointed with so much of the book but the ending was so damn good.

Everything is fine
Revisado: 06-22-18
It's fine, with both books so far I struggle to get through the first 1/4 of the book and as it spins up I get hooked and by the end I'm into it. It's not ground breaking or anything but it's a fine fantasy book. The characters are pretty interesting and well thought out, but though I get annoyed a little with the main protagonist from time to time.

I could do without the bloody trumpets
Revisado: 04-18-18
Overall its fine, everything is fine. Its a bit of a rough start, trying to hit the ground running by tossing you into a tense spy v spy capture scene but this is mixed with a rather boring and overly descriptive poor Shepard storyline. It eventually stretches out into an interesting plot though I found none of it surprising.
The main strength here is that the characters feel well defined and the dialogue is mostly believable and satisfying. The world building is vague enough to leave mystery but vivid enough to paint a detailed picture of the world and magic system without overly burdensome exposition.
Unfortunately, the whole peice for me seemed to lack an indefinable passion, like it was sort of going through the motions of a fantasy series but half heartedly. Related to this the plot twists and reveals felt uninspired, I guessed the secret identity of a character and have a strong guess for a further character identity I can only assume to be several books away.
Specifically for the audio book, as always I appreciate Kate Reading's performance and think she did great with the material though I wonder if the slower cadence used in this book was her interpretation or that of a director. And for the love of the gods, I hated those dumb trumpets that signaled... Well, I really don't know what.

James Marsters makes Jim Butcher shine.
Revisado: 07-08-16
I hav already read the series and am revisiting it via Audio book and have fallen in love with the work all over again. Much of this is due to the amazing performance of James Marsters, he lends a lot of emotion and feeling to the work and seems to nail the sarcastic tone of Harry perfectly. Interestingly enough having his unique delivery throughout the series really highlights the growth in both the character and the authors abilities.
This is one of my favourite entries in the series, although it's hard to continue the "Harry is the underdog" theme when he has amassed some ridiculous power at this point, Butcher still managed to maintain a sense of danger and suspense by pitting him against what feels like a tough situation.
My only real complaint is the portrayal of Harry's daughter. unless I misunderstand the time line, by this point in the series she should be about 10 or 12 years old but is written and performed like someone more likely to be 5 or 6.
