Historia
Grace Reinhart Sachs is living the only life she ever wanted for herself. Devoted to her husband, a pediatric oncologist at a major cancer hospital, their young son Henry, and the patients she sees in her therapy practice, her days are full of familiar things: She lives in the very New York apartment in which she was raised, and sends Henry to the school she herself once attended. Dismayed by the ways in which women delude themselves, Grace is also the author of a book You Should Have Known, in which she cautions women to really hear what men are trying to tell them.

Great narration and it held my interest. I was disappointed with the ending but can see how it made a suspenseful movie. Overall a good read

Excellent biography
Revisado: 02-16-18
This is an excellent biography which is also an historical review of important events taking place during their lifetimes. When listening to the book. One can experience first hand the decisions made during that time and the courage of our former leaders. It is not possible to avoid comparison between this time and our current days. There are many differences but some things never change. I recommend this book highly. Narration perfect and added to the enjoyment.

Historia
My Thoughts Be Bloody, a sweeping family saga, revives an extraordinary figure whose name has been missing, until now, from the story of President Lincoln's death. Edwin Booth, John Wilkes's older brother by four years, was in his day the biggest star of the American stage. Without an account of Edwin Booth, author Nora Titone argues, the real story of Lincoln's assassin has never been told.

I recommend this book highly. It reveals a time lost to many but important to those interested in US history. The story of the Booth family and the feelings of Americans during the 1800's. Come alive in a way no fiction can match

Historia
Goodwin describes the broken friendship between Teddy Roosevelt and his chosen successor, William Howard Taft. With the help of the "muckraking" press, Roosevelt had wielded the Bully Pulpit to challenge and triumph over abusive monopolies, political bosses, and corrupting money brokers. Roosevelt led a revolution that he bequeathed to Taft only to see it compromised as Taft surrendered to money men and big business. The rupture led Roosevelt to run against Taft for president, an ultimately futile race that gave power away to the Democrats.

Historia
Brooklyn, 1947: In the midst of a blizzard, in a two-family brownstone, two babies are born minutes apart to two women. They are sisters by marriage, with an impenetrable bond forged before and during that dramatic night; but as the years progress, small cracks start to appear, and their once deep friendship begins to unravel. No one knows why, and no one can stop it. One misguided choice; one moment of tragedy. Heartbreak wars with happiness and almost but not quite wins.

Long and detailed
Revisado: 10-05-16
I found the general idea interesting but I found it hard to relate to the main characters. I was not happy with the narration and I feel it took away from the characters. The Brooklyn accent altered my opinion of both mothers and I found the main character, Rose, especially unlikable, even to the end.

A beautiful novel
Revisado: 08-28-16
This is more than an autobiography told in words but a book told in feelings, thoughts, ideas shared through the senses. The similes, metaphors and personifications create an atmosphere that allows the reader to feel the experiences of the characters. It is a beautiful novel that can be enjoyed even better the second reading.

Historia
It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau....

Historia
The Ephrussis were a grand banking family, as rich and respected as the Rothschilds, who “burned like a comet” in 19th-century Paris and Vienna society. Yet by the end of World War II, almost the only thing remaining of their vast empire was a collection of 264 wood and ivory carvings, none of them larger than a matchbox. The renowned ceramicist Edmund de Waal became the fifth generation to inherit this small and exquisite collection of netsuke. Entranced by their beauty and mystery, he determined to trace the story of his family through the story of the collection.

Excellent historical novel
Revisado: 02-03-16
Well written. Vey interesting novel about art, generations of families and how the events of WWII effected the Jewish people of Europe. It is a story of how people accumulate wealth and hold their possessions so dear. But ultimately it's the ties of family that are most important.
It's also a novel about thenRt of Japan and Europe and how the lives of people were connected with the immortal objects.
I recommend this book highly.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

very good read
Revisado: 01-06-16
What made the experience of listening to Alexander Hamilton the most enjoyable?
The narrator is great. The novel is amazing and shows a whole new side of our founding fathers, and the start of the nation.
What did you like best about this story?
Understanding Alexander Hamilton, and his peers, demonstrated the struggle our founding fathers and regular citizens suffered during the 18th century. It's amazing to see where we've come since then, especially when listening to the political debates of today.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not in one sitting, but over a period of time to give time for thought and reflection.
