Historia
The accident came quickly. With no warning. In the dead of night, a precipitous plunge into a freezing river trapped everyone inside the bus. It was then that Army veteran John Reiff’s life came to an end. Extinguished in the sudden rush of frigid water. There was no expectation of survival. None. Let alone waking up beneath blinding hospital lights. Struggling to move, or see, or even breathe. But the doctors assure him that everything is normal. That things will improve. What they haven’t told him… is that he is the first person to be successfully revived from a cryonic sleep.

Very Clever
Revisado: 03-05-25
This is worth listening for 20 hours. Quite a lot of historical detail. Many, many interesting characters, but fairly easy to follow. Several surprises throughout. Recommend.

Great Sense of Humor

Fun listen. I try not to get sucked into too many long series (there are 22+). But I like the characters, story is reasonably easy to follow.

Historia
One of the most powerful questions humans ask about the cosmos is: Are we alone? While the science behind this inquiry is fascinating, it doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is a reflection of our values, our fears, and most importantly, our enduring sense of hope. In The Possibility of Life, acclaimed science journalist Jaime Green traces the history of our understanding, from the days of Galileo and Copernicus to our contemporary quest for exoplanets. Along the way, she interweaves insights from science fiction writers who construct worlds that in turn inspire scientists.

Lots of Interesting Ideas
Revisado: 07-05-24
This book is a bit “all over the map.” That said, it’s definitely fun. Lots of references to Science Fiction and the plausible ideas and those maybe not so. Thoughts on linguistics and communication and just how magnificent we humans are that we can think such things.

Great Story and History
Revisado: 04-24-24
This book definitely kept my interest. There’s a few crimes to solve as well as personal life stories intertwined in early American history. At the end, the author explains the actual history. She did a fabulous job of taking facts and making story.

Enjoyable Book
Revisado: 03-06-24
This was a lovely book. People at different stages of their lives find the local community library. The librarian who is a very memorable character gives them a recommendation for books. At least one of these recommendations seems outside of the request. In addition, she hands them a bonus gift. This starts a journey of self discovery for each one as well as an appreciation of connections and the value of our lives.

This is just a fun series. Hunting the bad guys in space, making jokes, having loyal shipmates. A few dollops of actual wisdom thrown in here and there. I’ll definitely read the next one in the series.

For Meridian Wallace - and many other smart, driven women of the 1940s - being ambitious meant being an outlier. Ever since she was a young girl, Meridian had been obsessed with birds, and she was determined to get her PhD, become an ornithologist, and make her mother's sacrifices to send her to college pay off. But she didn't expect to fall in love with her brilliant physics professor, Alden Whetstone. When he's recruited to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to take part in a mysterious wartime project, she reluctantly defers her own plans and joins him.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Raymond Jaffe feels like he doesn’t belong. Not with his mother’s new family. Not as a weekend guest with his father and his father’s wife. Not at school, where he’s an outcast. After his best friend moves away, Raymond has only two real connections: to the feral cat he’s tamed and to a blind ninety-two-year-old woman in his building who’s introduced herself with a curious question: Have you seen Luis Velez?
