Historia
It was a horrible death - Maurice Questing was lured into a pool of boiling mud and left there to die. Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn, far from home on a wartime quest for German agents, knows that any number of people could have killed him. But who actually did?

Character and scene building extravaganza!
Revisado: 12-27-23
One of the reasons I like Ngaio Marsh is she is more interested in filling out the characters and setting the stage than the police/detective chase for clues. Marsh draws me into the scene and plot with subtle dexterity and keeps me entrenched.

Historia
"Who is this man, this Scarlet Pimpernel?" Each day this question grew more pressing to the leaders of the French Revolution. Only this man and his band of followers threatened their total power. Only this maddeningly elusive figure defied the vast network of fanatics, informers, and secret agents that the Revolution spread out to catch its enemies.

Historia
Scotland's beloved storyteller, George MacDonald, 19th-century Scottish novelist and poet, was reintroduced to 20th century Christians by C. S. Lewis, whose reading of MacDonald's Phantastes triggered his own spiritual awakening and conversion. Other renowned writers have voiced similar acknowledgements. G. K. Chesterton said of MacDonald, "If we test the matter of originality of attitude, George MacDonald was one of the three or four greatest men of the 19th century."

Long but thorough
Revisado: 09-15-23
I enjoyed this audiobook very much and saw different sides of MacDonald through Phillips’ eyes. As I research others biographies and talk to MacDonald fans Phillips was right…(paraphrasing his words) We each need to read MacDonald and write our own biography because we each will see something in his writings that speaks to us and our experience. MacDonald can’t be pigeonholed…he knew his Master and followed no one but God’s word.

One of my favorites!
Revisado: 08-20-23
Sarah and Charles love story is one of my favorites and the narrator was perfect. She sounds just as I imagine Sarah to sound like.
Mr. & Mrs. Morris, Louis, Willy, Lottie, Freddie and Bella all come to life to flesh out the story and how sad that Lottie’s life was so selfish. This is my favorite era to read about…WW II.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Matthew Wallingham returns home, blinded and uncertain about his future. Worse yet, his father is ill, and his mother is obviously unhappy, while his younger brother, who has made a success of running the farm on the family’s estate in the war years, is resentful of Matthew’s desire to help him. The only person Matthew feels he can talk to is his grandmother, but the rest of the family regards her as a holy terror.

The narrator is perfect and brings out the cast of characters believably. It’s a favorite book and I am glad to get it in audiobook form. Wish they would do a few more of hers.

Historia
An espionage thriller that has been called the first great spy novel, it has sustained its popularity, being embraced by each new generation. The first in a series of five novels it features the spy Richard Hannay, an action hero with a stiff upper lip who gets caught up in a dangerous race against a plot by German spies to destroy the British war effort. When Richard Hannay offers sanctuary to an American agent seeking his help in stopping a political assassination, he takes the first step on a trail of peril and espionage.

Encouragement everytime I listen
Revisado: 09-23-22
Elisabeth Elliot is a favorite with me. Her guidance and comfort are ageless...can't say that about many authors. even though she is gone I still listen and learn. So grateful her family is making so much available...her simple understand of Scripture, down to earth way of sharing and her commitment to God is needed now more than ever.
