Historia
Once upon a time, a no-frills J.Crew rollneck sweater held an almost mystical power—or at least it felt that way. The story of J.Crew is the story of the original “lifestyle brand,” whose evolution charts a sea change in the way we dress, the way we shop, and who we aspire to be over the past four decades—all told through iconic clothes and the most riveting characters imaginable.

Loved it!

Great business/fashion history, overview of competitors, people and businesses before J Crew’s glory days of Jenna and Mickey, and the struggle for identity and viability after the huge financial burden of a massive LBO. A business book about an industry I worked in, match made in heaven for me!

Historia
The fateful quarter-century leading up to World War I was a time when the world of privilege still existed in Olympian luxury and the world of protest was heaving in its pain, its power, and its hate. The age was the climax of a century of the most accelerated rate of change in history, a cataclysmic shaping of destiny.

A wonderful survey
Revisado: 05-03-22
Tuchman creates a vivid portrayal of seemingly disparate topics that sum up the very nature of life in the two and one half decades before WW l. All the major forces that contributed to the status of the world’s condition in August 1914 are there. Even without a link to the coming war the momentous shifts of the old world of the 19th century to the new 20th century are spell binding.

Historia
The Restoration began in the spring of 1820, when Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees in upstate New York. Joseph had questions, and Jesus had answers. That was 200 years ago. As the Restoration enters its third century, the world has new questions. A loving God has answers. In Restoration, scholar and author Patrick Mason reflects on what it means for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in the ongoing Restoration.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-08-21
Some excellent concepts and insights, as usual from this author, I usually love his writings. However I found the spiritual and political mix of this book, and the device of Mason speaking as if he were God at the end very off putting. I’ll hope for better efforts from him in the future.

Historia
In 1929, in the blue-collar city of Portsmouth, Ohio, a company built a swimming pool the size of a football field; named Dreamland, it became the vital center of the community. Now, addiction has devastated Portsmouth, as it has hundreds of small rural towns and suburbs across America - addiction like no other the country has ever faced. How that happened is the riveting story of Dreamland.

Important and riveting book
Revisado: 05-13-20
Unexpectedly compelling read, following the problem of opioid addiction through all its ramifications. It all traces back to the pharmaceutical companies, in particular Perdue Pharma which opened a huge door to Heroin addiction for the general population. The greed and deception with which Perdue marketed OxyContin has ruined millions of lives. But this is a book about how it unfolded, the human toll, everything. I LOVED it. Excellent writing and narration made it a read I couldn’t put down.

Historia
No One Would Listen is the exclusive story of the Harry Markopolos-lead investigation into Bernie Madoff and his $65 billion Ponzi scheme. While a lot has been written about Madoff's scam, few actually know how Markopolos and his team - affectionately called "the Fox Hounds" by Markopolos himself - uncovered what Madoff was doing years before this financial disaster reached its pinnacle. Unfortunately, no one listened, until the damage of the world's largest financial fraud ever was irreversible.

An Important Read
Revisado: 04-18-17
Some criticize the author on style or brevity. It doesn't really matter in my view, everyone who has control of their money should read this enlightening account of the Madoff scandal. The SEC is a huge problem and if we don't address it we will have repeat occurrences. A vital must-read in my opinion!

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

Such an unexpectedly wonderful novel. The most enjoyable book I've read in a long time, and a book that taught me to look inside a person in a way I hadn't thought of before. I laughed, many times, and cried. Didn't want it to end. Read it.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Fascinating and detailed account of the life of Hamilton, genius, unbelievable output of the highest quality, spiritual, vain, flawed as are we all, devoted to his family and to the future of our country. I would love to have met him. Excellent writing, outstanding narration!

Revisado: 09-23-15
Riveting and real, this is an important book to read. The story of Russian corruption is so timely, and essential to understand in our world community today. Best book I have read in years, beautiful ending, understanding the nobility that can be in each of us. A wonderful portrait of a real and quiet hero, Sergei Magnitsky, and also understanding the depravity of Vladimir Putin. What a thriller!
