Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Well thought out
Revisado: 06-17-24
I’ll start with saying I took someone’s advice to listen at 1.2 speed and that seemed perfect. I couldn’t have imagined what it would have been like at normal speed. The story that was a 10 out of 10. I started listening and couldn’t stop. It seems insane to have weapons like that at all and having them will always keep the risk of using them real. The way the story walks through the whole system(s) failing (or actually working correctly depending on your view) is well — wow. No spoilers but the last chapter 24000 really tells it all.

Hollow story very good performances
Revisado: 07-26-21
It was really pretty bad. They character’s were more like teenagers and the research into the subject matter was around zero.I got through 8 chapters and was going to delete it but decided what the heck let me take it to the end, well that was difficult but I did it, regretfully.

Not Sci-fi at all
Revisado: 02-06-21
Disappointed that this was classified as Sci-fi. The sci-fi could have been replaced by anything, Mexican Cartel, Chinese Gangs, Russian Mob it would all fit perfectly. It was another book about a single character who was the only one with a skill and ability to survive and execute plans.

Eutopian and way short depth
Revisado: 12-14-20
It was a very Eutopian story. Terrible tragedy befalls the planet but we’re ok everyone will just get along. Some brief mentions of peripheral hardships that could happen but again no big impact. Character evolution and linkage was really welded together, and the readers sounded like they whispering by speaking so softly, not much emotion behind it. Not recommend.

Historia
Artificial Intelligence helps choose what books you buy, what movies you see, and even who you date. It puts the "smart" in your smartphone and soon it will drive your car. It makes most of the trades on Wall Street, and controls vital energy, water, and transportation infrastructure. But Artificial Intelligence can also threaten our existence. In as little as a decade, AI could match and then surpass human intelligence. Corporations and government agencies are pouring billions into achieving AI’s Holy Grail - human-level intelligence.

Required reading for everyone
Revisado: 01-01-18
Wow I really enjoyed this book. While I am not a fanatic about AI in any sense I do think this book should be required reading for everyone. I work in the technology sector and we get blindingly focused on our task and don’t objectively view any negative consequences of our work. But we do implement and work within our pre described boundaries. EVERYONE is waiting and helping to speed up the introduction of AGI, and its introduction will change everything.

To ordinary
Revisado: 05-07-16
Where does Caliban's War rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I am not a big fan of the science fiction that doesn't take biology into account. When the authors only look at advancements in technology the books seem kinda boring. I really like it when the authors take a real stretch and start to imagine people as far reaching and as biologically advanced as they are technologically advanced.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I would have had the people be as advanced as the the technology.
What does Jefferson Mays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I enjoyed different portrayals of the characters, it brought depth to story.
