Historia
Southern China, 1923. Desperate to secure her future, Mei Ling’s parents arrange a marriage to a widower in California. To enter the country, she must pretend to be her husband’s first wife - a paper wife. On the perilous voyage, Mei Ling takes an orphan girl named Siew under her wing. Dreams of a better life in America give Mei Ling the strength to endure the treacherous journey and detainment on Angel Island. But when she finally reaches San Francisco, she’s met with a surprise. Her husband, Chinn Kai Li, is a houseboy, not the successful merchant he led her to believe.

Annoying reader
Revisado: 12-21-24
I like the story overall, but the writing is very basic and detracted from the book. I also felt that the reader’s rendering also detracted from the experience.

Historia
Despite Israel's determined staying power in a hostile environment, its military might, and the innovation it fosters in businesses globally, the country is more divided than ever. The old guard—socialist secular elites and idealists—are a dying breed, and the state’s democratic foundations are being challenged. A dynamic and exuberant country of nine million, Israel is now largely comprised of native-born Hebrew speakers, and yet any permanent sense of security and normalcy is elusive.

Interesting anecdotes, terrible reader
Revisado: 12-12-23
The reader’s mispronunciation of almost every Hebrew name or object was incredibly distracting, making it very difficult to identify to whom or what she was referring. After a short time, it was so annoying that I stopped, listening to the book. Why would anybody select a reader, with no familiarity with the language that is central to the book?

Historia
This memoir is a tale of heartache and humor, of love and loss, of marriage and motherhood, and of learning to put one foot in front of the other by turning page after page. Ilana Kurshan takes us on a deeply accessible and personal guided tour of the Talmud, shedding new light on its stories and offering insights into its arguments - both for those already familiar with the text and for those who have never encountered it. For people of the book - both Jewish and non-Jewish - If All the Seas Were Ink is a celebration of learning how to fall in love once again.

Great book, inadequate reader!
Revisado: 11-23-20
While the book is wonderfully written, the reader mispronounces key words throughout, which diminishes significantly from the enjoyment of the book. How could the author have permitted the choice of this reader, and what about quality control from Audible and the publisher?
