Gripping tale
Revisado: 08-06-18
Liked the police characters very much. Decent, for a change. What a plot! I had a sample from the author's Fen series and was not impressed. This one is ever so much better. Some of the English expressions made no sense, but I found the title on Kindle Unlimited and reading and listening at the same time helped,. Narrator did a great job! I hope to buy the next three books in this new series due on Audible in October. The Kindle versions are available now. I guessed some of what was to come in the plot, but that only made me feel smart, not disappointed. Good listen!

Wonderful book! The best I have listened to -- and I have listened for years! Each character is unique. Though the story is tragic, it touches the heart. Don't miss this one!

Best Yet
Revisado: 12-12-15
Love Simon Prebble's narration. And this is the best yet of all the Charles Todd books I have read or listened to -- fifteen so far. A bit hard to remember all the characters in this one on occasion, but necessary to the plot, I presume.

Great Narrator!
Revisado: 02-14-14
Nigel Carrington really made Coffin Underground! Now I want all 13 Coffins. I think this book is better than Coffin In Fashion, but that was my first Coffin & I opted for a second. I think Nigel Carrington is one of the best if not THE best narrator of all the many I have heard. And I thought no one could top John Lea or Simon Prebble....

London, summer 1920. An unidentified body appears to have been run down by a motorcar and Ian Rutledge is leading the investigation to uncover what happened. While the signs point to murder, vital questions remain: Who is the victim? And where, exactly, was he killed? One small clue leads Rutledge to a firm built by two families, famous for producing and selling the world's best Madeira wine. Lewis French, the current head of the English enterprise, is missing. But is he the dead man? And does either his fiancée or his jilted former lover have anything to do with his disappearance - or possible death?

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-18-13
Having read several mother/son team books authored as Charles Todd and enjoyed them, I was somewhat lost in this one. It seemed a stretch in both plot and characters.Perhaps I listened in too many short snatches of time. I wanted to like it!

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Surprisingly Good
Revisado: 10-18-13
I never thought I would be interested in a boat race. But I thought the fact that it was in that horrendous Nazi Olympics might be riveting. It was, but not in the way I thought. As the title suggests, it was the boys in the boat that were mesmerizing.
I was a bit disappointed that there was not much on the German side of the story.
Still, I came away with a huge amount of respect for the boys in "our" boat.

Graham Greene’s evocative analysis of the love of self, the love of another, and the love of God is an English classic that has been translated for the stage, the screen, and even the opera house. Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man) turns in an authentic and stirring performance for this distinguished audio release.

Colin Firth is wonderful as a narrator.
Revisado: 03-09-13
Colin Firth is right up there with Ralph Cosham. Cosham has narrated about 100 books, and so far I've only found one by Colin Firth. It was a bittersweet story with more introspection than plot, but Firth nailed it as far as I'm concerned. I wish he would do more.

Too much
Revisado: 03-05-13
This seemed to spend a lot of time in the weeds of Who discovered what, and when, and how could someone profit from it? I had read a biography of Tesla, but I have yet to find his story presented in a truly interesting way. Tesla deserves great credit for his genius, but I came away still somewhat confused of what use it has been to us in the long run.

Revisado: 02-28-13
Regardless of whether you are a Democrat, Republican or Independent, the references in this book about our country's early years are a must read. Later in the book, some of the implications for today seemed a bit repetitive, but the message is worthwhile.
