Historia
My real story starts with a disaster, an unmitigated, pull-the-rug-from-under-you, clean-out-the-bank-account disaster. But had it not happened, The Police would never have risen to become the biggest rock band in the world; Jools Holland would not have ended up on TV; The Bangles, The Go-Go’s, R.E.M., and many other music stars might never have made it either. It’s strange how a fluke, a disaster, an unlikely event can lead to incredible results. But that is in essence what happened to me....

Really fun if you like New Wave
Revisado: 08-22-21
I liked this book on a number of levels. 1st, I was a big fan of the music in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I could relate to both the stories and the bands. 2nd, while Miles narration isn’t perfect, the fact he narrated it gave it an authenticity it might not have had. Lastly, it was simply fun. Who doesn’t like the story of an underdog making it in the larger corporate world. As with many a listen, I was sad when it was over.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Loved the story, narration not so much
Revisado: 08-22-21
This SF was a really a fun listen. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around the "aw shucks" narration. It sounded like someone from the 1950s. The story won me over, but I think it might be a better read than listen.

Historia
A major audiobook about the future of the world, blending intellectual and natural history and field reporting into a powerful account of the mass extinction unfolding before our eyes. Over the last half a billion years, there have been five mass extinctions, when the diversity of life on Earth suddenly and dramatically contracted. Scientists around the world are currently monitoring the sixth extinction, predicted to be the most devastating extinction event since the asteroid impact that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Well written, but sad
Revisado: 07-07-19
Good performance, but can't help but walk away thinking the deal is done. No amount of human intervention at this point will turn around the human intervention caused by human nature. Sad.

Historia
Best-selling author and renowned religious scholar Karen Armstrong presents a concise and articulate history of Islam, the world's fastest-growing faith. Beginning with the Prophet Muhammad's flight from Medina and concluding with an examination of modern Islamic practices and concerns, Armstrong delivers an unbiased overview. She contends that no religion is more feared and misunderstood by the Western world as Islam, and firmly challenges the notion that these two civilizations are on a collision course.

O.K., but the last part hard to beleive
Revisado: 03-01-06
I am glad I listened to the audio book, and would recommend it, but it kind of spun out control at the end. The first 4/5 was an interesting history of that region of the world and seemed to have little heavy political or religious bias. As it closes, the pro-Islam bias gets stronger and stronger until (in my view) the explanations for current violence are pure rationalization by the author. It is a shame, the last sections really made me question whether I should have taken the first parts at face value or not.
