Historia
Millennia ago, a magical race called the Aesir found a new home on a distant world. Attracted to the cold during an ice age, they hibernated for hundreds of years at a time. With each awakening, however, they saw their world changed by ever-evolving mortals encroaching on their territory and way of life. Two civilizations with opposing magic, poised to clash over and over. Now, the Aesir are awakening to wage a new war—this time to exterminate their enemy once and for all.

I enjoyed this new Jeff Wheeler book. The new magic system is interesting. Characters are interesting.

Love Brittany Pressley
Revisado: 03-05-24
Brittany Pressley is one of my favorite narrator's. she does a great job differentiating different characters.
I'm not sure why Zoe and her sister sound like they are from Jersey when they're from Massachusetts. I found the accents annoying at first, but hot used to them.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 03-03-24
Where the Forest Meets the Stars is a beautiful book.
Jo, a breast cancer survivor, is determined to do the work of two people while conducting research on birds. She is living in a remote cabin and spends 12 hours or more each day in the field.
Gabe lives on the property next to Jo's rental. He takes care of his ailing mother and his small farm while dealing with depression.
Ursa is an alien from the pinwheel galaxy. She has come to earth to see 5 miracles before she returns to the stars.
The three lives intersect and are forever changed.
I found Jo to be very relatable. She is learning who she is now that she has fought the battle with cancer. She is determined not to let her cancer status define her. She is confident in the choice she made to have a double mastectomy but worries about how men will view her.
The book also appealed to me as someone who lives in Illinois. The book is mostly set in rural southern Illinois. Effingham, Illinois and the Univesity of Illinois are also visited.
I recommend this book for anyone who wants an uplifting read with a romance subplot that is clean.
My content warnings include- guns, gun violence, death of a pet, mental illness.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Lone Space Ship Survivor on Mission to Save Earth
Revisado: 02-27-23
A fantastic story. Although often heavy in science, math, and physics, it is not done in a way to make a non-mathematical mind feel stupid or lost. I actually appreciated the narrator's mind and wished I could think more like him. The narrator tells the story with a sense of humor, sometimes self deprecating and sometimes sarcastic.
Ryland Grace wakes up with a form of amnesia. He finds himself in a clinical atmosphere with robot arms taking care of him. Told in the narrator's current time and memory flashbacks. We soon learn he is the sole survivor on a space ship in another galaxy. Grace is on a suicide mission to solve the problem that is destroying the earth's sun.

Love Veronica Speedwell
Revisado: 04-06-21
My favorite thing about this and all Veronica Speedwell mysteries is the witty dialog. Next, I love the vocabulary. I often pause my reading to look up the definition of a word I'm not familiar with. Excelsior, for example, are the fine wood shavings used in packing material. Finally, I adore the relationship between Veronica and Stoker.
An Unexpected Peril is a delightful listen. You could read this even if you haven't read the preceding books. Deanna Rayborn does a great job filling her reader in on pertinent characters and past events.
I recommend this for people who enjoy mysteries, historical fiction, witty dialog, and/or smart female main characters.
