Historia
Mike Campbell was the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers from the band’s inception in 1976 to Petty’s tragic death in 2017. His iconic, melodic playing helped form the foundation of the band’s sound, as heard on definitive classics like “American Girl,” “Breakdown,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “Learning to Fly” and “Into the Great Wide Open.”

Beautiful
Revisado: 03-20-25
I found this book very beautiful, Mike is a wonderful storyteller and gives the story of the heartbreakers depth and heart. Mike’s passion for guitars and music is almost like this magical force and when that force collides with Tom Petty’s confidence and songwriting they are unstoppable. I think every TP + HB fan loves this band to pieces and we all loved the many sides of Tom; the tough guy who wasn’t going to let anything get in his way or the softer side he became more comfortable with. Mike shows so much love and respect for Tom while also being honest. Mike gets a level deeper than other telling of the Heartbreakers story, he does this by focusing on HIS story while adding contextual information about the cast of characters he meets on his journey. He also balances this while respecting Tom’s privacy. I think the most beautiful parts of this book is the love story between Mike and Marcie, his wonderfully supportive wife. It can’t be easy being married to a musician but somehow these two have made it 50+yrs.

Historia
No one other than Warren Zanes, rocker and writer and friend, could author a book about Tom Petty that is as honest and evocative of Petty's music and the remarkable rock and roll history he and his band helped to write. Born in Gainesville, Florida, with more than a little hillbilly in his blood, Tom Petty was a Southern shit kicker, a kid without a whole lot of promise. Rock and roll made it otherwise.

Makes you miss Tom Petty even more
Revisado: 03-16-25
As one who consumes a lot of rock biographies I think this one is well done, I’ve listened to it 3x since its release a few years back. I feel Tom didn’t let the author dig too emotionally deep but he navigates that well while being respectful. I like the fact the biographer has a personal connection with Tom and was a musician himself (and an academic). The narration is pure perfection not something I normally experience when author reads their own book. Highly recommend

Full of good stories
Revisado: 08-16-23
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Not knowing anything about Jon Scott I was a little skeptical wondering if this was going to be a book by some guy who just kind of knew Tom and was making money off their relationship BUT curiosity got best of me so I listened. Luckily it’s a book that is written from the heart and it honors his friend Tom. I believe it is self published and probably self produced recording and maybe has a few flaws but it actually adds to the experience in giving this book that heart. There are some great audio additions to this book.

Awful
Revisado: 09-06-21
If you like huge plot holes that anyone with a brain could solve and annoying main characters then maybe this is the book for you. The only positive is the narrator (until you hear the dialogue from the characters she has to perform)

Through even the joyous and innocent memories, the pain of Davies' lifelong grief and profound betrayal is unfiltered, searing and beautifully articulated. Just Ignore Him is not only an autobiography, it is a testament to a survivor's resilience and courage.

This is a very important memoir that needs to be heard
Revisado: 08-29-21
A huge fan of Alan’s for a while now I will admit when I first heard about his story I was skeptical of why a successful person like Alan would want a story like this broadcast to the world. BUT hearing his beautiful and powerful words I now completely understand why it’s critical for Alan and others who experienced abuse to tell their story and not be silenced.
Alan is a beautiful narrator of his story, something that couldn’t have been easy. If you have seen Alan’s stand up you know already he is an expert story teller but in this book he is even more raw & honest in a way many would shy away from.

Coming to you from The Roundhouse in Camden, the show recreates the relaxed atmosphere found among bantering comics backstage. There are no rules, no themes and no preparation. All Alan has is a couple of intriguing facts about each of his guests, after that, the conversation spirals in all directions. Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled – The Extended Podcast contains loads of exclusive extra stories and banter that couldn’t be broadcast on the smash hit TV show.

Comedians Tell the Best Stories
Revisado: 07-28-21
I’ve been a fan of Alan Davies for many years via QI. Alan introduced me to the wonderful world of British comedy and ignited my love of panel shows.
What I like most about As Yet Untitled is how you feel part of the causal conversation listening to amazing story tellers do what they do best, tell funny stories. Each episode includes a variety of guests of familiar and new faces to British entertainment. Alan (and the producers) do a great job keeping an intimate atmosphere where the guests feel comfortable allowing conversation to flow freely. There is some structure so nothing feels chaotic but it’s done without feeling overly produced.

Are you Kidding?
Revisado: 02-25-16
The book started out weak and I couldn't tell if it was the writing or narrator. The story was completely full of cliches and eye rolling dialogue. It felt like the writer just finished a college Fiction Writing 101 class. I stuck with the book thinking its has to get better but nope it was a waste of 17 hours!

He was tall, at least six feet, with dirty blond hair that hung over his eyes. His T-shirt read Nietzsche Is My Homeboy. So, that was Matt. Who Julie Seagles likes. A lot. But there is also Finn. Who she flat out loves. Complicated? Awkward? Completely. But really, how was this freshly-minted Boston transplant and newbie college freshman supposed to know that she would end up living with the family of an old friend of her mother’s? This was all supposed to be temporary.

Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf. Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother - and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn....

Good Detective Story
Revisado: 12-10-12
I'm a fan of the British and Swedish tv series Wallander and reading the description of this book reminded me of the show and I was right it was similar. The story takes place in Norway and the only complaint I really had was the character names were Norwegian and unfamiliar (even from someone who is Minnesotan) so it was hard to keep track of who was who. The narrator's voice took a while to get use to. The story was a little predictable but then twists and turns happen and you aren't sure what you thought was going to happen will happen or not.

Starts slow but keep with it
Revisado: 10-30-12
The book starts our very slow and not until you're halfway through do you start to realize the plot is moving. Its not until the last couple of hours did I figure it out and even then had some good surprises. My favorite Kate Morton book so far!
