This was basically a Scooby-Doo mystery with a little bit of alchemy in the background but just as window dressing. There were some rhetorical questions raised about the future of the characters, but none were really addressed very much. I feel like this is the second to the last book in the series with the next one ending all the character arcs.

A serious let down

Eco wish fulfillment, no thoughts, ends justify

I usually love these books, but could not suspend disbelief for this one. Too much ends justify means. Declan saves day by blasting his way through everything, but fated to die from burnout. There was also too little empathy for literally millions of people dying. Also, if a supercomputer can coordinate food supplies all over the world to save people, perhaps they could have volunteered to help before doomsday. Mother Earth stops people from mining coal, but what happens with mining lithium for batteries for our electric cars? One power solution they have is distribution of magic devices to power trucks and plows. Seems like a cheat. I know this is fantasy, but hard to like it because of the above. I had the impression this book was written by a different author and attributed to Mr. Conroe.
