Historia
Among the tree-lined waterways of South Carolina low country, the Murdaugh name means power. A century-old, multimillion-dollar law practice has catapulted the family into incredible wealth and local celebrity—but it was an unimaginable tragedy that would thrust them into the national spotlight. On June 7th, 2021, prominent attorney Alex Murdaugh discovered the bodies of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, on the grounds of their thousand-acre hunting lodge. The mystery deepened only months later when Alex himself was shot in the head and left for dead on the side of the road.

Good story of the Murdaugh Murders
Revisado: 06-26-24
Good fact based story of all that happened. Liked the coverage of all 5 of (what I consider) murders - Stephen Smith, Mallory Beach, Gloria the housekeeper, and Paul & Maggie. The coverage of Alex's father and grandfather is important but could have been shorter. The author did not give a lot of personal opinion if any... just the facts.

Historia
On October 1, 1993, a 12-year-old girl was kidnapped at knifepoint from her bedroom in Petaluma, California, during a sleepover with two friends, while her mother slept soundly in the room next door. This rarest of all kidnappings—a stranger abduction from the home—triggered one of the largest manhunts in FBI history. New York Times bestselling author Kim Cross has written the first comprehensive account of what happened on that fateful night in October, as well as how the case forever transformed the Bureau’s approach to solving crimes.

Compassionate & thorough work
Revisado: 02-27-24
Compassionate & thorough work. Good audio narration as well with warmth for Polly & her family. I liked how mention was made of investigators who prayed & turned to their Christian faith. And how good can come from evil.

Historia
Most people are both repelled and intrigued by the images of cold-blooded, conscienceless murderers that increasingly populate our movies, television programs, and newspaper headlines. With their flagrant criminal violation of society's rules, serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy are among the most dramatic examples of the psychopath. Individuals with this personality disorder are fully aware of the consequences of their actions and know the difference between right and wrong....

Interesting examples of psychopathy. I enjoyed book. Wish spiritual root causes were evaluated by the author. Not very hopeful outcomes for treatment otherwise.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Wonderful to hear the voices of those involved like Paul Holes and other investigators and scientists as well as the voices of the victims. Powerfully told and kept my attention until the end. Kudos to persistent and compassionate Paul Holes & all involved with capturing DeAngelo.

In 2005, Kerri Rawson opened the door of her apartment to greet an FBI agent who shared the shocking news that her father had been arrested for murdering 10 people, including two children. That’s also when she first learned that her father was the notorious serial killer known as BTK, a name he’d given himself that described the horrific way he committed his crimes: Bind, torture, kill.

Gripping
Revisado: 02-28-22
As I got more and more familiar with the author's emotions and struggles, I felt greater empathy and interest in viewing the story from her perspective. I admired her Christian testimony and how the tragedy brought her closer, not further from, Jesus.

Historia
The methods discussed in this audiobook offer numerous opportunities for an interviewer - be it a parent, spouse, boss, or a law enforcement official - to detect deception. Without the aid of a machine, there are three ways you can determine if someone is lying: by analyzing how a person phrases his statement, by observing a subject's nonverbal gestures, and by examining a person's handwriting traits.

Great information with 90% being known cases. Author is very detailed with word choice and opened my eyes when normally a guilty person's written or verbal statement would not be suspicious.
