Historia
Uwem Akpan's stunning stories humanize the perils of poverty and violence so piercingly that few listeners will feel they've ever encountered Africa so immediately. The eight-year-old narrator of "An Ex-Mas Feast" needs only enough money to buy books and pay fees in order to attend school. Even when his 12-year-old sister takes to the streets to raise these meager funds, his dream can't be granted.

I still give it 5 stars
Revisado: 09-22-09
Even though there are only 3 of the 5 stories, I'll give it 5 stars.
What hauntingly, distrubing and vivid stories. I stood there listening to the 2nd one unable to move. I do hope that I'll be able to get the othere 2 stories at some point.

Historia
It's Christmastime in Skary, Indiana, but the holiday season has been hijacked by maverick director Lois Stepaphanopolis as she attempts to bring her horror-ific vision of A Christmas Carol to life. But the holly-decked path from page to stage is a thorny one, as Lois attempts to rally her skeptical cast, including new father Wolfe Boone, and then she learns that her reluctant marketing director, Alfred Tennison, is truly a Christmas Scrooge.

I'm sorry but

I was very disappointed when I started to listen and found that the narrator was a woman (yeah I should have noticed that). Having listened to the 1st three narrated by Michael Taylor, this one doesn't come close.

Probably the most heart wrenching book ever
Revisado: 09-15-08
I don't know how to begin to describe this book other than to say that I could not stop listening, yet had to turn it off several times so that I could call my sister to say Oh my God.
This book is amazing, joyful, sorrowful, evil & good all roled into one. There is magic - real & ethereal. The imagery that he evokes in his reader is breath taking. I don't usually cry when I read - I sobbed many times while listening.
