Historia
Born in Massachusetts, Jared Bibler relocated to Iceland in 2004 only to find himself in the middle of an unprecedented financial crisis a handful of years later. Personally wiped out and seeking to uncover the truth about a collapse that brought the pastoral country to its knees, he became the lead investigator into some of the largest financial crimes in the world. This work helped Iceland to famously become the only country to jail its bank CEOs in the wake of the 2008 crisis.

Not compelling enough and dry read
Revisado: 06-12-23
This didn’t do much for me- the reading lacked energy and enthusiasm. Too much regulatory stuff and not enough about the personalities that drove the crisis.

Historia
In Pee Wees: Confessions of a Hockey Parent, Rich Cohen takes us through a season of hard-fought competition in Fairfield County, Connecticut, an affluent suburb of New York City. Part memoir and part exploration of youth sports and the exploding popularity of American hockey, Pee Wees follows the ups and downs of the Ridgefield Bears, the 12-year-old boys and girls on the team, and the parents watching, cheering, conniving, and cursing in the stands.

Historia
After three decades at the center of race and sports in America, the first Black head coach to win an NCAA championship makes the private public at last. Chockful of stories and moving beyond mere stats (and what stats! three Final Fours, four times national coach of the year, seven Big East championships, 97 percent graduation rate), Thompson’s book drives us through his childhood under Jim Crow segregation to our current moment of racial reckoning.

Historia
For many of us, it’s playing softball with friends, under the lights, a cooler of beer in the dugout. In the late 1980s, author Rich Cohen, then a senior in high school, assembled a team of ne’er-do-wells - gear heads, burnouts, goof balls, and the possibly gifted - to compete in what Cohen considered the best 12-Inch softball league in the Lower 48. Think Field of Dreams, but, instead of a cornfield in Iowa, these games were played behind a grade school in Glencoe, Illinois, on Chicago’s North Shore.

Nostalgia from the 80’s
Revisado: 11-07-20
As a Glencoe resident I was glad to come across this book. As such, I’m a bit biased especially having been a baseball fan in the 80s. Really enjoyable listen, the memories for the author haven’t lost their meaning or sentiment.

Historia
The decline and fall of Rudy Giuliani, from “America’s Mayor” to public spectacle, has all the makings of a modern Shakespearean tragedy. Those who know Giuliani, whose tough leadership and even tougher politics helped revitalize New York City in the 1990s and lead the country through 9/11, have stood by and watched with incredulity as he put himself at the heart of impeachment charges against the President.

Lacked substance- could have been much better.
Revisado: 10-18-20
Flat narration and lacked substance. I get it- the author hates Rudy and Trump. Rudy was portrayed as nothing more than a manic, loathing, drunken, obese, attention seeking sloth. I didn’t need to spend 2 hours to hear that over and over.

This was an interesting story from explaining his childhood, psyche and how he evolved into a monster. Strong narration as well. Enjoyable if you like true horror!
