Historia
In the lush and magical Pacific Northwest live two best friends who grew up like sisters: charismatic, mercurial, and beautiful Aurora, and the devoted, watchful narrator. Each of them is incomplete without the other. But their unbreakable bond is challenged when a mysterious and gifted musician named Jack comes between them. His music is like nothing I have ever heard. It is like the ocean surging, the wind that blows across the open water, the far call of gulls. Suddenly, each girl must decide what matters most.

The audio file is terribly edited.
Revisado: 05-08-17
Narrator comments, coughs, etc. not edited out. I think you have to be a little younger than me to appreciate the story fully. Maybe if I'd been a wilder teenager, or young enough that Kurt Cobain's story is as historic for me as Jimi Hendrix's, but this story feels more like a sketch than a complete picture, and maybe it's supposed to. The ending felt like the story broke the rules it had established, but maybe that unfairness is intentional as well. It's hard to say, but I will certainly be thinking about this story and what it means, and what my reaction means, for a good while.

This is McCammon's honest, funny, and entertaining journey from impostor to authority - a story that begins with periods of debilitating workplace anxiety but leads to rich insights and practical advice from a guy who still remembers what it's like to feel entirely ill equipped for professional success.

Short, funny, and (to me) relatable

I know nothing about McCammon, but this is the most relatable business advice I've read.

The perils of whispersync

What would have made The Paper Magician better?
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
What didn’t you like about Amy McFadden’s performance?
Over-enunciation, and more of the idea of a posh London accent than an actual English accent. I personally prefer a more steady narration in which the action in the story informs how I feel rather than the narrator injecting much emotion into non-dialogue. It feels manipulative, which immediately causes me to be suspicious and resistant rather than suspend disbelief and immersive.
Having said this, I think Amy McFadden does have a good clarity of voice, from the small portion I heard, and I think that she could be a very good narrator (at least, as I define one) with a little more restraint and experience.
What character would you cut from The Paper Magician?
Any additional comments?
So, unfortunately, when you start out by reading a kindle book, you form an idea of characters' voices. Trying to switch over to listening to the audio version was extremely jarring.

I'll need to re-read it.
Revisado: 03-18-16
Mispronounced words, wandering accents. One main character was kind of British for a little while, then that went away. I'll have to re-read the book rather than listen to it, as I'm having difficulty separating the narration from the story.
