While I enjoyed the last installment in the series, and getting to know life in Felecia’s part of the world, for me it is all about Lisbeth. This emotional episode still manages to pack action, magic and plenty of killing. Ever curious how long Ms. Harris will keep this series going, the final words both thrilled and terrified me. Stay tuned, dear readers!

Charlene Harris’s alternative history of America continues in her 4th installment. Be prepared - this is Felecia’s story to tell and every bit as action packed and fascinating as Lisbeth’s previous 3. Still brilliantly written, still beautifully narrated, I can’t believe I’m done and now must return to the waiting game for more. It is difficult to explain why this series fascinates so - the plot lines do not leap through years but truly keep a pace that feels so natural you don’t realize how close you are to the end until it wraps. The anticipation of where this world goes next - to the growing power of the half-witch, half Grigori? To Lisbeth and Eli making their way as only they know how with a little help from friends at the Iron Hand? To the power vacuum in the Mexican witchy world? I will be delighted for any and all of it as long as Felix, Felecia, Lizbeth and Eli continue to exist in that world….

As a rule of thumb, I will listen to any book written by Molly Harper. When I saw this listed in the Audible original series, I was definitely curious. I was hooked from the start, as it contains pull the hallmark of what Harbor does best: humor, snark, banter, crazy characters, and things that tug at your heart strings just a little bit, but not too much. The narration was excellent, although having two narrators can be a little jarring, especially when they are Telling back to back POV with character to have accents that don’t match. It is not enough to be offputting, but it is not my preferred narration style. I highly recommend this series for all Molly, Harper fans and can genuinely say that it is probably my favorite storyline that she has come up with in a very long time.

Nancy Warren’s Vampire Bookclub series oozes charm and watching Quinn Callahan puzzle out murders like a book selling, witchy Ms. Marple each installment is delightful. I would like Lachlan to make a move one day. And how the author decided to work Leprechauns, the Mafia and poisoned stew into a half dozen hours of ear candy is beyond me, but I’ll take it. And now we wait for Book 5….

Molly Harper always creates the best characters but this period piece is unlike her others. The world of Sarah Smith, the Ms. Castwells ladies and the changelings is delightful and so entertaining. And, as always, Amanda Ronconi narrates with a flair that pulls you in and keeps you enthralled.

I have truly enjoyed these cozy mysteries and adored the British Baking Show angle in each one. The characters were fun and likeable and the writing was quick and paced properly. Revisiting Broomwoad Hall each installment with Hollis McCarthy’s dulcet tones was like spending time with an old, new friend. I am sad to see it end, despite wrapping up nicely with the usual Poppy unveiling. A definite must for those who want brain candy with a side of cake and a death or 3!!

Pasties and Poor Decisions is another cute stand alone novella by the ever delightful Molly Harper. The one-two combo of Harper and Amanda Ronconi as narrator is inextricably connected in my brain so I was delighted to find this little treat in my list of suggestions because I thought I’d listened yo everything she’d written already. My only complaint - too short! I could have handled another 3 hrs of Anna’s personal journey.

Complete brain candy - very cute story. New twist on old tropes, love the social media incorporations - not always an easy feat in a book, much less the audio version. Narrator does good job of pace, voice differentiation and accents. All in all a satisfying read.

Charlene Harris knows how to craft a story, characters and world build in a way that pulls the reader in without forcing facts and truths that don’t seem to jive. In this, book 3 of the Gunnie Rose series, she builds to a crescendo that reverberates and keeps the listener on the edge well until the end. And the end is nicely wrapped without being trite or rushed. Eve Kaminsky is, as always, pitch perfect and pace dynamic. She embodies the voices and personalities of all the characters and does not slip - no easy feat when sliding from southern to Russian to Spanish. I’m sad to see it wrap up and secretly hope Ms Harris will write another in this world but if she doesn’t, I’ll be content.

Seeing as we are well into the Yule season and Hanukkah is here and I am so not there yet, I cast about for some holiday cheer. Eight Winter Nights was the holiday gelt my ears were looking for. Clever and funny with only a bit of angst, Rachel and Oz make the perfect season pairing and their friends to lovers romance is binge worthy for an afternoon of decorating or wrapping gifts. Totally worth it!
