Historia
Pink and pretty or predatory and hardened, sexualized girlhood influences our daughters from infancy onward, telling them that how a girl looks matters more than who she is. Somewhere between the exhilarating rise of Girl Power in the 1990s and today, the pursuit of physical perfection has been recast as a source - the source - of female empowerment. And commercialization has spread the message faster and farther, reaching girls at ever-younger ages.

Good points, however...
Revisado: 09-22-15
The author made some very good points about marketing to our children, especially our girls. I wholeheartedly agree with her on training our girls to see themselves from the inside out and not from the outside in. I appreciated much of the research that went into this book, however I was a little turned off by the extremes of women's Liberation and feminist views. I would prefer the focus be on the ethics and morality behind raising strong capable girls. I believe that women and girls are more beautiful when they focus less on being equal to men as well as less on excessive beauty attainment.

Good book
Revisado: 07-15-15
I have listened to many books about the disgraceful time in our country when the south was full of slave owners. This was a good book about that time period. I did not like it near as much as "The Kitchen House" however. What was missing here was real depth to the characters. There's was a lot that was superficial and I wanted the author to develop them much more. Still I enjoyed it and became aware of a few side issues of the time that I had not really known about before.

Historia
Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Beautiful story, beautifully read
Revisado: 02-25-15
This was a beautiful story that expanded my understanding of the blind, France in WW2, and the Hitler youth. Anthony Doerr is an excellent story teller with a very deep understanding of human relationships. Zach Appleman has a deep voice with an easy manner which brings the relationships and human thoughts to life.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Although the story was interesting with good writing and suspense, I constantly longed to know the characters better. I never felt completely attached to any of the characters.
