From Comics to Audiodrama
Revisado: 10-13-15
I read the "Locke & Key" comic series from IDW some time ago. A few times while listening, I would pull out the corresponding issue and follow along. Much of the dialogue is word-for-word from the chat bubbles in the comics. That's not a bad thing, but it is something of note to those that have read them already. This won't be a "Walking Dead" situation where the show deviates from the source material.
And just so it doesn't go unsaid for potential listeners, this audio-drama covers all 7 mini-series of the story (37 issues total), so it's all in here.
I enjoyed this very much. This is the first time I've seen an Audible-produced audio-drama. I presume that it was offered as a promotion to test the water on future productions. I hope that it does well, because this was fantastic. The cast did a great job.
Fans of weird and/or horror fiction will definitely want to check this one out. After all, the primary setting is the fictional town of Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Neighboring towns are probably Dunwich and Arkham.

Historia
Even from the perspective of time, it is nearly impossible to grasp the full contribution made to music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in his brief and glorious life. He composed his first symphony at the age of 8 and reached full artistic maturity by the time he was only 20. And when he died at the age of 35, he left a legacy of more than 600 works of brilliance - symphonies, chamber music, operas, and more - most composed during an incredibly productive 20-year period.

One of the Professors You Wish You'd Had
Revisado: 08-05-13
Professor Greenberg's lecture delivery is as informative as it is entertaining. He covers the basics of Mozart's life, addressing many common misconceptions. The lecture isn't technical in terms of music by any means, but does give clear examples of the material described. I imagine the video lectures of this series would have been better, but as I listen to most audiobooks in the car or while at work, this is the next best thing. If you are fan of classical (concert) music, and enjoy lectures that are very conversational, then this will suit you just fine.

A tad more heavy on the neuroscience than I expected, the book was still a good listen.

Historia
"Our biggest fear," says poet and Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, "is that we will become nothing when we die. If we think that we cease to exist when we die, we have not looked very deeply at ourselves." It is possible to live every day without being afraid of what happens when we die. Through a close examination of who we are, how we exist, and how we live, we can conquer our fear to live a freer and happier life. Through stories and lucid teachings, Thich Naht Hanh brings peace of mind to a difficult subject, and shows is how to live a happier life, free of fear.

Not the best of Thay's teachings, but still good.
Revisado: 12-09-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe. For me, Thay's words on death and the fear of it were good, but I was expecting to have more of a revelation on it. To be fair, this was my own fault, and not Thay's. It would depend on where the seeker is coming from on this topic.
Was No Death, No Fear: Comforting Wisdom for Life worth the listening time?
Yes.

Historia
There have been a lot of books that have made the case for Buddhism. What makes this book fresh and exciting is Asma's iconoclasm, irreverence, and hardheaded approach to the subject. He is distressed that much of what passes for Buddhism is really little more than "New Age mush." He loudly asserts that it is time to "take the California out of Buddhism." And he presents a spiritual practice that does not require a belief in creeds or dogma.

Good Commentary on Modern Western Buddhism
Revisado: 12-09-12
What did you love best about Why I Am a Buddhist?
As a parent, I liked how he related stories of dealing with his young son while still trying to practice Buddhist concepts. The book is not a focus on parenting, though.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I enjoyed the narration and it was a good performance. I laughed a lot.
Any additional comments?
Not a deal-breaker, but the editor of the audio apparently stopped doing his job in the last 10 minutes or so. You can hear Tom Pile re-read a few sentences when he didn't seem happy with the first version. It was actually kind of funny.

Awesome Story!!!
Revisado: 04-07-12
What made the experience of listening to Star Wars: Darth Plagueis the most enjoyable?
Daniel Davis, hands down, made this recording what it is. He executes different voices between characters that you could almost just listen to the dialog as an audio play.
