Historia
Cooking is nourishing. Murder isn't. Kelly and her husband, Sheriff Mike, take a belated honeymoon and travel to a cooking school at the Castello di Nardo in Tuscany. The day after they arrive, they discover that Signora Nardo, the owner of the cooking school, has been murdered. The Signora had her share of people who would like to see the first lady of the castle dead, including her brother, Salvadore, her lover, Giovanni, her lover's wife, Angelica, the Signora's husband, a rival cooking school owner, and her sister-in-law, who happens to be the resident chef at the cooking school.

story with potential but writing needs work
Revisado: 01-21-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Most of the story is told through the characters' internal dialogue, telling us what should be shown instead. Too much of this story was given away as exposition. I felt like I was reading a summary of a book instead of watching it unfold.
Would you ever listen to anything by Dianne Harman again?
I haven't read the first book in the series and I always like to give any author more than one chance, not every book in a series can be a hit and I'm hoping this one was the only miss.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erin deWard?
Can't say, but the Italian accents were skewed and the male characters all sounded like they had a sore throat or a head cold.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was disappointed since the idea of a murder mystery set in an Italian cooking school is wonderful. The story had potential but the dialogue is stilted and fake. Our crime solving couple talk to each other as though they're constantly in a Hallmark card yet spend no time together. The male is constantly trying to keep our plucky female from getting involved in the investigation; too cliched.

suspensful ride
Revisado: 01-20-16
Would you listen to The Second Tree again? Why?
No, but it could lend itself to a second book. Although this was tagged as fantasy it's too violent to fall into that category. I would call it rather suspense thriller so that you know what you're getting.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ugandan characters and accents well portrayed.
What about Scott Thomas’s performance did you like?
Excellent narrator, does a great job with multiple accents. Good at portraying drama and making each character different.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Think of the Indiana Jones 'The Last Crusade' movie - knowledge man was not meant to have.
Any additional comments?
Very well written but I must say some scenes were rather gory and I found listening made me squeamish. I was gifted with this audiobook in exchange for a review.

senior's cozy novella
Revisado: 01-13-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
At a little over two hours long this light cozy that centers around a senior's retirement community is a cute story.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
No time for plot twists, the ending is uncomplicated but still satisfying.
What three words best describe Angel Clark’s performance?
Good narrator, lots of southern twang and seniors' voices which can be tricky.
Do you think A Caffeinated Crunch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The story stands alone, it would need to be longer and the characters more developed for a full length series.

Historia
It is the fall of 1896, and Miss Concordia Wells is hip-deep in the usual tumult of a lady professor's life: classes, clubs, student pranks, and the unending drama generated by the girls she lives with on campus. Events take a grave turn, however, when an ancient Egyptian amulet donated to the college mysteriously disappears, the donor is found murdered, and his daughter - Concordia's best friend - confesses to killing him.

light historical mystery
Revisado: 01-12-16
Would you try another book from K.B. Owen and/or Becket Royce?
Unfortunately I haven't read the first book in the series, although this stands alone I felt I would have had a better understanding of the protagonist if I had.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The book was too long, the mystery was satisfactorily solved three quarters of the way through and became a little too convuluted. The last quarter focused on catching the criminal which could have been shortened.
What does Becket Royce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Good narrator, great with accents in the story.
Do you think Unseemly Pursuits needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The character and setting lend themselves well to a series although the constant reminders of restrictions on a Victorian age female sleuth are a little annoying after a while.

Solid story
Revisado: 01-08-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Enjoyed the story, it's a good read.
What did you like best about this story?
Loved the mix of art and history.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Lori Faiella?
Good voice but a little on the soft and monotone side, I would have preferred a little more drama in her voice.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
This would make a great movie although the history side of the story lacked research and details. Could have been more fleshed out.
Any additional comments?
Most of my critique would be that although the writing was solid it was littered with cliches. The men have 'penetrating eyes' and our independent-minded heroine seems to 'burst into tears' an awful lot. She also has a habit of walking alone at night and never calling the police in the most obvious times. Th e ending was a bit 'Harlequin-esque' for my taste.
