*This is a Capture Reviews produced review of the book, “Body Language Secrets” by George Pain. This book is supposed to give you representations of non verbal communication and how to interpret it. I didn’t get this much out of it but, you may. This is my view and opinion of the book.*
📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚
The book is a very slow start. Chapter 3 is very confusing, the author talks about distances in social settings, and it feels like that chapter belongs in a whole different book. Gestures that a speaker is making has no relevance on social cues.
Chapter 7 speaks about anger and the consequences of anger. I had to read further to find a correlation if any. I didn’t understand what the consequences of anger had to do with body language. The farther I get into this book, the less It talks about body language.
I find this book very unorganized, for example; chapter 4 talks about the meaning of looking right and left in the air. Chapter 7 also talks about looking right and left, just not in the air. Shouldn’t that have been in the same chapter? This type of disorganization can cause confusion in the reader.
Handshaking was already covered in chapter 5, now again, the author is revisiting hand shaking in chapter 8. This book is all over the place, and not nailed down to anything specific. This book should’ve been named the basics on non-verbal communication, not body language.
Public speaking has been touched on throughout the whole book. The same information has been re-told multiple times. This book would be a good “Introduction”, if you will, into basic forms of non verbal social cues. This book does however, have a few good informational nuggets. It is a good read for someone who knows absolutely nothing about this subject, and needs a point in the right direction.
