Historia
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

The Greatest Grisham novel ever written
Revisado: 01-13-19
Great Story and Narration. Having lived through the Great Depression And WW2, I was impressed with how he introduced the history of the Bataan Death March and other atrocities into this tale. He covered many of the Culture and norms of the time period, before, during and after the war while also including the complicated lives of those left behind.
History and Story Telling at it's best.

A double suprise
Revisado: 12-05-16
What did you love best about The Wrong Side of Goodbye?
2 good stories in 1 book
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Both plots did
What does Titus Welliver bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Good deep cops voice
Any additional comments?
Welliver did a great job narrating. One of Connelly's best and leaves you knowing another is on the way.

Historia
Why is America living in an age of profound economic inequality? Why, despite the desperate need to address climate change, have even modest environmental efforts been defeated again and again? Why have protections for employees been decimated? Why do hedge-fund billionaires pay a far lower tax rate than middle-class workers? The conventional answer is that a popular uprising against "big government" led to the rise of a broad-based conservative movement.

Narrator was very good. She definitely made them sound like bad guys.

Historia
When Thomas Jefferson became president in 1801, America faced a crisis. The new nation was deeply in debt and needed its economy to grow quickly, but its merchant ships were under attack. Pirates from North Africa's Barbary coast routinely captured American sailors and held them as slaves, demanding ransom and tribute payments far beyond what the new country could afford.

History not learned so being repeated
Revisado: 11-20-15
I would recommend this book to be read by high school students and any one who runs for political office. Not knowing history is to repeat it.

Historia
Return to James Lee Burke's "timeless, parallel universe" with detective Dave Robicheaux, as he investigates the murders of two women, tries to prove one man's innocence, and faces an enemy unlike any he has ever known. Gothic, dense, brutal, touching, and always compelling, Jolie Blon's Bounce is classic storytelling from a writer who has been dubbed "the Faulkner of crime fiction."

Outsatnding
Revisado: 06-03-14
What made the experience of listening to Jolie Blon's Bounce the most enjoyable?
I have listened to a lot of James Lee Burke's books. This one is the best. So descriptive that I often would rewind because I know I would hear something that I did not hear in the first place..The start of Chapter 2 where he explains why Cops, Street Reporters, Hard Core Case case workers usually hang around with like minded people hit the nail on the head. His details and description of everyday life is so real it is outstanding..
What did you like best about this story?
The story lines and characters and the blending of them all.
Have you listened to any of Mark Hammer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Mark Hammer is the best. I returned two of Burke's latest books because I was disappointed in the narrator.
Hammer and Burke are a perfect match.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Neither I spent 26 years as a cop in NYC
