Historia
Aurora De La Torre, or Ora to her friends, knows moving back to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a place that was once home and is now full of bittersweet memories of her late mother, isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But after breaking up with her longtime famous musician boyfriend, hiding out in a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart. And checking out her landlord who lives across the driveway just might cure it, too. Only Tobias Rhodes didn’t rent out the apartment to her, rather it was his teenage son, Amos.

Surprised me
Revisado: 07-08-24
I initially bought this because I wanted a fluffy romance and I always love Amanda Ronconi as a reader. The story turned out to have more depth than I expected, with respect to complex relationship issues and grief, which I enjoyed. Yes, it hit some of the predictable romance beats, but in other places it varied from the typical tropes. At first, the switching back and forth between the two narrator voices during character conversations was jarring and their styles didn't seem to mesh well (despite both being good), but I stopped noticing as I got into the story. Soon enough it seemed natural.

Human in the Face of Suffering
Revisado: 06-24-22
I can understand why some people might give this podcast a one-star review, especially if they're used to more "professional" and polished podcasts. However, the lack of slick production values and the very human reactions to the stories (even if that's laughter, which many people naturally use to diffuse fear, horror, or distress) make them very relatable. Sometimes there are errors in details or pronunciations, but who hasn't done that? Listening to Ash And Alaina is like getting together with old friends. Now when I go back to some other podcasts, I miss the homegrown feel. They cover a diverse array of cases, and the inclusion of listener stories is a nice way to build the community. Even if I've heard a case before, they add a different perspective. Another positive is the fact that they often warn listeners of particularly distressing details so that someone can skip that part. I came to the podcast only recently, so I binged many episodes in a row. Thanks to that, I've easily seen how the hosts have grown since Episode 1. Bravo ladies.

Nice balance of information and entertainment
Revisado: 05-18-22
The two hosts of this podcast play well off one another, with one serving primarily as the storyteller and the other acting as a proxy for the listeners. He comes in naive to the details, posits theories about causes, and asks questions that many of us no doubt have. The pacing is good, flight jardon and procedures are well-explained, and I like hearing about the industry changes made as a result of the accidents/disasters. There is some humor, but it never seems disrespectful or inappropriate. Both hosts have engaging ways of speaking. Well done!

I wanted to like it...
Revisado: 05-18-22
I love Black Box Down and am interested in ship disasters, so I decided to give this a try. I usually like multiple hosts and don't mind some humor to lighten what might otherwise be pretty grim stories, but this too often dissolved into distracting and (at times) disrespectful frat-bro comments. I'm sure it appeals to some people's taste, just not mine.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty - when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II.

Great Series
Revisado: 01-31-12
Both I and my sixteen-year-old son loved this book. We listened together in the car and laughed out loud in many places. The narrator's character voices and inflections are great. I love Oberon the wolfhound! There are many recent/current pop culture references in this book, which I think some readers may miss.

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....
