Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

Historia
In this “dark fairy tale” (Kirkus Reviews), Phoebe, an eight-year-old girl, lies comatose following a car accident—a body without a spirit. Ceres, her mother, can only sit by her bedside and read aloud the fairy stories Phoebe loves in the hope they might summon her back to this world. But an old house on the hospital grounds, a property connected to a book written by a vanished author, is calling to Ceres.

A compelling story-tale.
Revisado: 01-23-25
Book 2 in the series and another great read. (*Listening.) I found so many personally touching sentence and paragraphs in this book as well as the 1st. Each word assembled in such a way as to pierce, shape and paint a connection to the story. Making it even more engaging and making my minds eye see the story elements unfolding, come alive. Adult themes of death, loss, heartache and uncertain hope are fully intertwined in the fairy tale like story that seems so parallel to our lives these days. I recommend. I will be buying the series for my collection for they deserve to be read, and reread.

He is angry and he is alone, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness, and as he takes refuge in the myths and fairytales so beloved of his dead mother, he finds that the real world and the fantasy world have begun to meld. The Crooked Man has come, with his mocking smile and his enigmatic words: "Welcome, your majesty. All hail the new king."

A... reminder
Revisado: 01-18-25
Read well, making it visually engaging, deep and personal (real). I think this story would be ok for younger readers (*listeners) but not too young. It has adult life themes. (*But nothing explicit or crude.) Overall, a wonderful story for most ages.
The story has some sad and heavy emotional moments which for my age group (>60) and life experiences, definitely strikes pangs of the heart.
I do recommend it. I intend to purchase a hard copy for myself. I'm looking forward to listening (*reading) to it again.

Historia
This hilarious, heartfelt, and soaring adventure will delight fans of The Goonies and Indiana Jones. Performed as a 1930s radio drama, it’s bursting with humor for all ages, orchestral scoring, and some of the most talented voices on Broadway. When their ace pilot parents (and adorable puppy) mysteriously disappear over the Pacific, the Flamingo Sisters - Flo, Faye, and Franny - escape the clutches of their evil Uncle Freidrich (who believes girls should never pilot aeroplanes) and join a flying circus.

Wow...a truely deligjtful story - for all ages! Action, adventure, drama and dangers.
Well read and easy to listen to and follow. With snipits of narrations just at the right moments. (This adventure reading and story reminds me of the many hours I happily spent listening to ABC Radio Mysteries...on the radio of course.
I'm already downloading the next adventure.!

Historia
Arabella Grimsbro is a 15-year-old girl with a mouth like a dock worker and an attitude to match. When she walks into Voyages Through Literature - a cheesy mall store promising virtual reality tours of public domain classics - the last thing she expects is to be whisked away to an actual, magical world. To make things worse, this Oz is very different from the one she saw in a movie when she was little.

A foul-mouthed twist on a classic. I liked it.
Revisado: 03-31-23
...for those with tender toes (and ears) - be fore warned - there's allot of cussing and the "f" word in this really great adaptation of a classic.
But I liked it...the story, the interpretation and the real speak of a teenager experiencing this adventure. (Being foul mouthed without reservation is as normal to a teenager as pizza, texting and going to the Mall to "just hang". Sometimes the words "...oh this is bad!" just don't describe the scene as completely as "...f*#k!" does.)
I met the author at Seattle comicon in the artist section of the event where I was exposed to the adventures of Arabella Grimbro. I was captivated by the author's quick descriptions of her adventures. There are three book featuring Arabella Grimbro. I've just finished the 1st book, this one and very much looking forward to the next two.
I think everyone will find this read enjoyable (despite the cussing); the story is that rich, flows well and a fun read, I also very much enjoyed the person who read the book for Audible. Her voice was spot on; I could really imagine it was Arabella, and her inflections captured the "bad" moments in the story. I recommend this title.
