Pretty banal story sort of like an AI wrote it...

Not much here, VERY thin plot. Not contextually accurate for country it's in. Americans don't say "in a fortnight" or "weighs so many stones". Written as though by someone that has read about the US on the internet from the 1950s but had never been there. Could've been way better if they just tried a little harder. Characters had no depth, conversations read like a stereotypical 1950s gumshoe radio show... kinda lame overall.

Wish there wasnt so much handwringing.

I wanted to like this story and there definite potential here but the main characters wrung their hands constantly and asked non-stop "what do we do now" in EVERY single situation. it was the most wingeing of any adventure. It got to be like Dora the Explorer where they constantly ask the most obvious questions. Made it hard to enjoy the story. The evil characters were the most enjoyable because they weren't simpering idiots constantly.

Incredible, emotional story

This is an excellent story, it is VERY emotional but it's worth it. There is a premise of suicide which is pretty hard to work around but if you can hang in there it will absolutely redeem itself. it's some of a kind story.

interesting idea, characters are extremely thin

Quavering fearful protagonist was strong enough to survive in the underworld of a post apocalyptic world all on her own but had no strength of will and fell to mewling feebleness when faced with even the slightest hardship. That pairing didn't really make sense. I found her childish approach to critical decisions to be annoyingly frustrating. The story could have been so much more if she wasn't such a wet napkin (even by her own admission) she frankly didn't deserve the breaks she got. Frustrating. She deserved to be a way better character.

Great action, narration pace was hard to listen to

it was a good story but the pedantic pace and tone of the narrator made it very hard to enjoy. I turned up the speed by 10% and it was much better. The story had good action though there were quite a few loose ends that didn't get resolved. Obviously there are more books to this series. I'd listen to another as long as the narrator isn't quite so hard to listen to.
