The Book Is Good But Narration Is Anything But
Revisado: 01-12-22
I read the Oath as a teenager and loved it. Was hoping to introduce my wife to it via audiobook but this was a major disappointment. Kevin King's performance makes everyone sound like passive aggressive teenagers. They are whiny and irritating. We are about an hour and half in and we have lists of who we hate the most to who is hated the least. Cannot relate to the way these characters are portrayed one bit. It's possible that the writing could be at least somewhat at fault here. But the narration doesn't make the characters sound like they are being introspective or struggling with their relationships. They sound like a teenage drama from Nickelodeon or Disney. The voices are lacking emotion, the pacing of dialogue is often too quick which makes it feel rushed and the inconsistency of character voices can make it hard to track. I recommended you pick up a physical copy and skip the audiobook sadly.

A Fantastic Journey Through Space
Revisado: 01-12-22
My wife and I highly recommend Christopher Paolini's first adventure outside of Alagaesia. It seems that most science fiction space stories take place extremely far into the future or "a long time ago." Paolini weaves a fantastic story in the not so distant future that is heavily grounded (but not too grounded) in what science believe may be possible. The characters are endearing and development is even better. The story itself had my wife and I impatient to find out what happened next. We will probably listen to it again in the next couple years.
Jennifer Hale's voice performance was fantastic. She did an amazing job distinguishing characters voices and providing the correct tone and emotion in ever scenario. For this being her first time giving her hand at an audiobook, all I can say is we loved it.
Also loved the Inheritance Cycle references too. Looking forward to Paolini's next book!

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

one of the best fictional tales since LotR
Revisado: 11-01-17
I really enjoyed this book. It's my first go at listening to it but ive read it before. I really enjoy hearing Christophers writing style grow more complex as the series progresses.
my only problem with the audio edition is Gerard Boyles (narrator) inconsistency with some of the characters voices, and his awful and annoying interpretation of the voices of animals.
other than that one negative, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest.

It's Peretti's ultimate monster story. And this time, the monster is real. Miles away from the hectic city, Reed and Rebecca hike into the beautiful Northwestern woods. They're surrounded by gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, and hundreds of acres of unspoiled wilderness. But something - or someone - begins closing in on them. Something no human has ever seen. And it's killing everyone in its path without remorse.
