Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Bobiverse!
Revisado: 10-12-24
This was another fun ride through the Bobiverse. More sci-fi references dropped to appreciate (or be clueless!). The narration is amazing. A great listen to distract me during daily breathing treatments.

Historia
Zuri has the perfect life—a beautiful home on the Hillstead, a loving family, and a powerful job keeping the LA Basin’s grid humming. If only she didn’t see the ghost of her dead twin in the mirror. Her grief-counselor husband understands too much, Aunties Cora and Vivian smother her to excess, and her mother can’t look at her daughter without seeing the half that’s missing. Zuri can’t begin to face her sister’s little daughter—to Ruby, Zuri is the ghost. Which is why she’s running away to work, again, on the anniversary of her sister’s death.

please don't name the main character Zuri
Revisado: 06-20-24
I'm listening in my car and Siri keeps popping up when Zuri is mentioned. The book is great, the narrator is excellent, but oh what an annoyance to have to press the decline button on the dash. Siri stops the book almost every time Zuri's name comes up. Sigh. It doesn't happen on my hearing aids (yes, I stream to my hearing aids when not in the car), thank heavens, because I listen during respiratory clearance with an airway vest 20 minutes twice a day. It's annoying enough to be shaken around and cough <grin>. So next time...name your character something not contiguous with Siri. Pleeeeeaaaase.

Historia
Ambassador Mahit Dzmare arrives in the center of the multi-system Teixcalaanli Empire only to discover that her predecessor, the previous ambassador from their small but fiercely independent mining station, has died. But no one will admit that his death wasn't an accident - or that Mahit might be next to die, during a time of political instability in the highest echelons of the imperial court. Now, Mahit must discover who is behind the murder, rescue herself, and save her station from Teixcalaan's unceasing expansion.

Historia
Years after clean energy ended the world’s reliance on fossil fuels, a lull of peace encompasses all of humanity. Some think we should travel to the distant corners of the galaxy; others oppose the idea, thinking that the harnessed singularity reactors are unnatural. When a terrorist group attacks the Lunar colony, members of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force are divided as a result of the incursion. Years later, Lieutenant Commander Kyle Torres comes face to face with old friends, as he’s thrown into an assignment that could change everything.

Purple prose and overblown narration
Revisado: 06-01-22
I really tried to like these books. I listened to both of them. But I kept wincing with the author's choice of words and the disjointed writing. The narrator was loud and blustery with the military characters, with lots of accents, but...it was Not Good. If you want great space opera, listen to The Expanse, Old Man's War, or the Frontlines series. Now there's some great sci-fi.

Narration, story, and characters all A+
Revisado: 03-19-21
This is a book that should definitely be listened to with the marvelous voice actors assembled for The History of What Comes Next. The story is based on facts, with the addition of the two main characters (and their nemesis bad guys). The author did extensive research and shares it at the end of the audiobook in a delightful half-hour post-book reading. Don't miss it!

Historia
Bren Cameron, acting as the representative of the atevi's political leader, Tabini-aiji, as well as translator between humans and atevi, has undertaken a mission to the human enclave of Mospheira. Both his presence on the island and his absence from the continent have stirred old enemies to realize new opportunities. Old hatreds. Old grudges. Old ambitions. The situation has strengthened the determination of power-seekers on both sides of the strait. Bren knows most of them very well, but not all of them well enough.

TheForeigner series has been a delight throughout. It is made even better by the narration of Daniel Thomas May, who navigates the language and pronunciations of names and places without a hitch. I love immersing in the stories and letting the language and customs roll over me. More! More!

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Another hit for Scalzi
Revisado: 05-29-17
What did you love best about The Collapsing Empire?
This is a great story: lots of interesting characters, an unusual universe (the Interdependency), and a fast-moving plot.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The new Emperox, because who doesn't like an unwilling-but-gutsy young woman ruler?
What does Wil Wheaton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
My only complaint about this book is the VERY LOUD reading of a character who swears a lot. I don't mind some bad language, but it sounds as if between Wil and the sound engineers it was as loud as a TV commercial. We kept having to adjust the volume. Please fix on the next one, because I am *so* looking forward to hearing what happens next.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Fascinating History
Revisado: 05-20-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Alexander Hamilton to be better than the print version?
My husband and I listen to books while traveling in our RV. MUCH better than a print book when navigating the highway. Alexander Hamilton has gripped us from the beginning. It's the book the Broadway musical was inspired by, and I can see why.
What other book might you compare Alexander Hamilton to and why?
Simon Schama's Slaves book was similar, though not as long. This is a LONG book; the faint of heart may want to try the abridged version.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, this is a book to listen to in sections and think about. The parallels to modern society are very interesting.
