Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Great story telling.
Revisado: 04-20-25
This story is so captivating. Unfortunately the narrations are not. It can be hard to tell who’s speaking and what’s said in their mind vs out loud.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Great story, crap writing
Revisado: 03-03-25
Very fun and entertaining story, but very unintelligent and simple writing. The narration didn’t help. Too bad because there are so many talented narrators out there.

Historia
Sanna is a mermaid - but she is only half seavish. The night of her birth, a sea-witch cast a spell that made Sanna’s people, including her landish mother, forget how and where she was born. Now Sanna is sixteen and an outsider in the seavish matriarchy, and she is determined to find her mother and learn who she is. She apprentices herself to the witch to learn the magic of making and unmaking, and with a new pair of legs and a quest to complete for her teacher, she follows a clue that leads her ashore on the Thirty-Seven Dark Islands.

Meh

While there was some clever writing, overall the story was just ok. The narration was pretty awful. Very monotone and certain characters were performed as always having a shaky uncertain voice.

Historia
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high. Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered.

Wonderful writing and narration

I love the authors writing, it’s really enchanting and creative. The end of the story is a bit of a let down. The narrator actually sounds like an old wizard and I love listening to his whimsical voice.

A gut-wrenching, beautiful memoir which explores toxic masculinity and the devastating consequences of war on one impressionable young soldier Matt Young joined the Marine Corps aged 18, after a drunken night that culminated in him crashing his car into a fire hydrant. The teenage wasteland he fled followed him to the training bases of California. Young survived training and then three deployments to Iraq as an infantryman.

Good to read if a loved one is enlisted
Revisado: 12-09-18
I recommend this book if you have a high schooler or older that wants to join the military or if you have a loved one that’s enlisted. It gives us civilians a peak into what life is really like for the enlisted. No romance or fluff about it. Also helped me understand why those recently out of the military struggle.

Historia
Uncle Tom's Cabin was the best-selling novel of the 19th century and the second best-selling book of that century, following the Bible. It is credited with helping fuel the abolitionist cause in the 1850s. In 1855, three years after it was published, it was called "the most popular novel of our day". A thrilling and important piece of American literature!

Interesting story from a historical perspective
Revisado: 12-04-18
Just a heads up, this story was written during a time when slavery was active and the author meant it as a way to convince people of the evils of slavery. Because of this, the “N” word is used frequently. It’s a good example of the horrors of slavery and it’s interesting to see how the author uses christianity to explain why it’s wrong, especially since many slave owners were “Christian “.

Talented narrator, interesting story
Revisado: 11-11-18
The narrator was very talented and gave a lot of life to each character. The story is dark but entertaining. Not sure how I feel about women taking on the distasteful characteristics of men once they receive power, but overall it’s a clever way to show how this imaginary post cataclysmic future came to be.
