Wow! Was this awful!

Worst performance I’ve ever suffered through. Accents were over the top awful (Chinese, Japanese and Russian people should be deeply offended). Story was pretty lame as well. Don’t waste your time.

Extremely fun listen

The only con I can mention is that it wasn't longer! If you're a dog lover, you will thoroughly enjoy this book and likely identify with some of the stories and personalities. At times laugh out loud funny and at other times tender and touching, this book is a pure joy to listen to (and John's narration is top-notch!).

Well crafted, engrossing story

If you liked "Gods in Alabama" you'll love "Between, Georgia". Once again, the characters are so well developed, you really feel you know them. The story is engrossing and the humor is sharp and thoroughly enjoyable. The author does a superb job narrating (her voice for the character of Bernice is reminiscent of Vicki Lawrence doing Momma on Carol Burnett!). The story will draw you in right from the start and, like all good books, you'll hate when it finally draws to its satisfying close. Two thumbs up! I anxiously await the next yarn from this talented author.

Didn't want it to end!

This was one of the most enjoyable stories I've listened to in awhile. The narrator was so perfect for this book and really brought it alive. The characters were interesting and the storyline compelling. A good mix of humor, intrigue and drama. One of only a few books I'd consider listening to a second time around.

A must-read

This is an incredible story that pulls you in from the beginning and never lets go. Narrated in the 1st person, and against a historical background of Afghanistan, you have to keep reminding yourself it's a novel, not an amazing and touching autobiography. Excellent story, well-narrated...one of those books you hate for it to end!

Disappointing

Interesting plot, but bad writing, bad theology and implausible scenes rank this low on my list of good reads. The author comes off like a bad soap opera or cheap romance novel whenever he tries to make some 'chemistry' between his characters...really bad! The ending was so unbelievable, it makes Hollywood's ridiculous action movies seem plausible. Dan's writing also comes off pretty amateur.
The most damaging, however, is his insistence that what he declares in his books are fact, when in truth, they are heretical fiction.
Sad.

Heresy told poorly

While the story was somewhat interesting from a whodunnit/mystery standpoint, the religious implications he raises are laughable. Unfortunately, many people will take them as fact, which is highly regrettable.
The author, as with his book, "Angels & Demons", writes an interesting story, but does not write well. The 'romantic' parts come off like a bad soap opera and many scenes are just too unrealistic.

I haven't laughed so hard in a long time...and just from listening to a guy read from his books! The author's deadpan delivery really makes his stories work. Very entertaining!

Thought provoking

Really gets you thinking...you see your own behavior and start to realize how you're playing into the enemy's hands. Very thought-provoking...every Christian should read this.

Very good, but fell flat at the end

Although it took a little while to get fully into this book (and get used to Jack as an adult), I became just as immersed as with the Talisman. As usual, Stephen King allows you to really 'know' the characters and the story line was very cool. HOWEVER, the ending fell flat...it was as if the authors got tired and wanted to wrap things up. Not nearly as good as the Talisman. An excellent book with a disappointing finish.
