This exceeded my expectations in several ways. The story is complicated and interesting and unexpected. The writing is clever with enough ambiguity in the middle that you were kept guessing. Told entirely through electronic verbal communication from multiple viewpoints, it is a great listening performance.

Dragons in Tuscaloosa - Of course this was FUN!

I loved the Andrea Vernon books. I loved this Dragon book. Sure they are about superheros, dragons, mages, etc. but they are so much more. Modern, ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances. Buddy comedies. Found families. Heists. Adventure. Great dialogue. This male author must pay a lot of attention to the women in his life because he does a great job portraying flawed but capable, feisty women. He must have spent some time in the south also. He nails it - as if he is laughing with us - not at us. Highly recommend!

Very well written!

I always enjoy novels about seniors and especially appreciate when they are written as fully formed complex characters. The author got it right on what it is like to live in an aging body while reminding us that the breadth of emotions do not diminish with age. The story was intriguing and emotional, I wish I could spend more time with these characters and I do plan to read more books by this author.

A very satisfying conclusion to the series!

I thoroughly enjoyed what is possibly the last in the Ruth stories. The author did a wonderful job calling back so many fond memories and leaving the people we’ve come to love in a positive place. While also accurately and sympathetically describing the events of the early Covid pandemic. I don’t think that I could have read this novel two years ago. The crisis was still too raw. Now, this story acts as a balm.

I am so glad that I found this series of books. Amazing son. So many twist and turns. This one was completely unexpected and I enjoyed it so much!

I was not disappointed. This was another amazing book, full of well developed characters and realistic plot lines. I loved the deepening relationships and the end took me completely by surprise.

Repetitive, didn’t flow well.

It’s pretty good. But I didn’t believe the leaps at the end. No logical way to arrive at the evil doer. Far too much proselytizing. Enjoyed learning about Buddhism but the overexplaining was repetitive.

Fun, but Substantial

I needed a break from multiple series about feisty women that are centered around a time of war. This was great! Light. Fun. Alternating voice kept it moving and interesting. I cared about the entire cast of very real people. But it’s not fluffy. It touched on the very real issues of insecurity and emotional abuse and flaws in any legal system. I’m sending it to friends and buying others from this author.

Bravo! Brilliant!

Brilliant writing and perfect performance by both women. I loved it and will gift it to my best friend. It is a wonderful immersion into the lives of two important women during an important time. They are not on a pedestal; the conversation is real. If you know women like this you rejoice in those friendships.

I put off this one in the series for awhile, simply because I was tired of WWII. But I should have trusted Ms Winspear to offer a new perspective with grace and beauty.
