Historia
Mercer Mann, a popular writer from Camino Island, is back on the beach, marrying her boyfriend, Thomas, in a seaside ceremony. Bruce Cable, infamous owner of Bay Books, performs the wedding. Afterward, Bruce tells Mercer that he has stumbled upon an incredible story. Mercer desperately needs an idea for her next novel, and Bruce now has one. The true story is about Dark Isle, a sliver of a barrier island not far off the North Florida coast. It was settled by freed slaves three hundred years ago, and their descendants lived there until 1955, when the last one was forced to leave.

A wonderful story with excellent narration
Revisado: 05-29-24
I found this to be a wonderful listen. I literally could not put it down. Whoopi Goldberg does an amazing job with the narration. I felt like my mother was reading it to me. another great story from John Grisham. I highly recommend it.

Not up to the standard of Dick Francis
Revisado: 02-18-24
I'm sorry to say that this book did not hold up to my expectations of Dick and Felix Francis novels. The storyline was very clumsy and the characters lacking in the sophistication I've come to expect from Dick Francis. I found it tedious from start to finish.

Historia
Seven years ago, Miles Pussett was a steeplechase jockey, loving the rush of the race. But after an unfortunate event, he left horseracing behind and swore he would never return. Now he gets his adrenaline rush from riding headfirst down the Cresta Run, a three-quarter-mile Swiss ice chute, reaching speeds of up to eighty miles per hour. Finding himself in St Moritz during the same weekend as White Turf, when high-class horseracing takes place on the frozen lake, he gets talked into helping out with the horses. Against his better judgement, he decides to assist.

Historia
“Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County, the fictional setting of many of John Grisham’s unforgettable stories. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. He’s called upon to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, a former lawyer in Clanton, who three years earlier became a local legend when he stole money from his clients, divorced his wife, filed for bankruptcy, and left his family in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again—until now. Now Mack is back, and he’s leaning on his old pals, Jake and Harry Rex, to help him return. His homecoming does not go as planned.

Missing the usual Grisham twists
Revisado: 06-23-22
Two out of the three stories were interesting but lacked any sort of engaging plot or flat twist. I definitely miss Michael Beck and his excellent narration. The narrators lacked any differentiation in voice to help keep track of who was speaking.

A good whodunnit in the style of Dick Francis
Revisado: 12-12-21
I enjoyed the story with some great action and plot twists. there's certainly could be better editing done. The Americans were using patently British terms such as "going on holiday" which no American would say. I found the narration to be someone distracting. it was read well by John Keating but, the Irishman doing an English accent came out seemingly Australian?

Not my favorite Grisham novel
Revisado: 10-28-21
This was not my favorite John Grisham novel by far. It was very slow getting started and had a disappointing ending. The narration was difficult to follow as the narrator used the same voice and speech patterns for every character except for one. I found myself backing up repeatedly to determine who was speaking.

When 14-year-old Mattie Sullivan asks Spenser to look into her mother’s murder, he’s not completely convinced by her claim that the police investigation four years ago was botched. Mattie is gruff, street-smart, and wise beyond her years, left to care for her younger siblings and an alcoholic grandmother in a dilapidated apartment in South Boston. But her need for closure and her determination to make things right hit Spenser where he lives - they’re the very characteristics he abides by.

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-07-19
I was disappointed with both the story and the performance. The research of American racing was poor or non-existent as mistake after mistake was made. I usually enjoy Jarvis's narrations but, he needs to work on his American accents. All this was distracting along with a lukewarm storyline. This was not up to the usual standards of a Francis family mystery.
