Excellent story, great characters. Highly recommend this series. Feels real, and you want the characters to prevail.

Do yourself a favor and spend the next few hours following Dale Maharidge as he struggles to understand his dad and his dad's wounds. Incredible journey and a beautiful story of the search for answers. I highly recommend this!

Horrible Narration, Mediocre Story

The narration of the first three books was off cadence, accenting the wrong words in sentences and resulting in confusing and frustrating listening. Imagine overdramatizing words not needing it and missing the words that did. Mispronunciations were also part of the frustration. For example, "pyre" was pronounced like "pier", then "pyre", then "pier", again. There were no piers in the book. I suppose the writer may have misspelled the words, but other words were also mispronounced. The final book of the first series was badly edited, again contributing to the general poor listening quality. I stuck it out, hoping the second series would be better, but the crazy punching of the wrong words continued even with a different narrator.

As for the books themselves, I wanted to love them. Female protagonist who's military, EMP, and she's not a fainting female all gave me great hope. But, the narration put the nails in the coffin. I returned the books and heaved a sigh of relief. thanks

If I could award more stars for performance... Stephen Fry is excellent in his interpretation of voices and characters. such a gifted performer brings to life Sherlock, Watson, Mycroft, Moriarty and too many bit characters to name.

I purchased this with a credit and what an incredible bargain it was!

Pat Frank wrote this in the 1950's, evidenced by his condemnation of segregation, a hot topic of the time. Great book of another time, The Cold War, when the littlest thing might swing either side into launching WWIII. Post apocalyptic fiction that asks the question, how do we survive on our own without modern resupply? The chilling aspect of this is that as rough as the characters in the book have it, we are far more dependent upon our supply chain and as a society are far more removed from a time when folks had skills to subsist, had the room to subsist and had the desire to subsist.

Will Patton's narration adds just enough color to the story to bring it up a notch without detracting from the message. Great job of narrating.

There's just enough jargon to satisfy those looking for specs, but he also keeps the story popping along. His characters are not cartoonist, they're people you might know, with flaws and strengths. Love this book!

This is a book series that is equal parts hopeful and cautionary. While weaving a story of a family navigating a technological shift of immense proportions, we are the protagonist problem solve admirably and oftentimes brilliantly. Great story, good narration.
