Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Cute
Revisado: 09-19-23
Cute story but the narration was a mix between monotone and sing songy. More inflection and varying tones would’ve made listening more enjoyable.

Couldn’t wait for it to end
Revisado: 07-08-23
The plot and writing was good but the Boston accident made me cringe. The actors were good but the characters were annoying. Two years before clearing up a misunderstanding was ridic but more so, waiting for most of the book for them to get together was annoying. The author’s description of their sexual encounters was good but just too much. The female annoyed me so much.

Twist at the end!
Revisado: 03-22-23
I loved the twist at the end - I didn’t see that coming. I do wish it had tied together better… kinda disjointed - I was expecting a different villain. I would’ve given the story a five star had Toni not been such an idiot. Also- the preface to each chapter - “three years prior” was annoying. Worth a listen nonetheless.

Historia
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Meh
Revisado: 02-26-23
I chose this book based on reviews and I do not share their opinions for sure. With better editing this book would’ve been great. It could’ve been 6 hours shorter- I like back story but this was overload. The author repeated the characters names waaaay too many times - throw in some pronouns once in a while! And Michael’s awkward use of “honey” so early on in their relationship- and then at nauseam ever after.,,. The story was disjointed at times - especially after so much DETAIL about the history only to wrap up the conclusion in very quick (makes no sense why Rowan didn’t put up much of a fight) only to hate Michael end the story with a rambling monologue about the goodness of humankind. This could’ve been sooo much better if editing had helped redirect the story and cut out hours of confusing- and erroneous background.

Drinking game
Revisado: 11-02-22
The story was slow at parts and then everything happens in the last 15 minutes. It was worth a credit but you can play a drinking game and take a drink every time the narrator says “clutched” and be drunk in the first hour. Let’s use a thesaurus next time. K?

Irritating
Revisado: 07-20-22
This book was annoying and I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Too much “explaining” and the narrator made the main inspector sound grouchy pissed off constantly. If this was ever made into a movie it would be a good drinking game every time Elery said “daaaaad”

Hotel-room-trashing tantrums? Check. Daddy issues galore? Check. Glitz, glamour and general debauchery? I wrote the f**king book. I’m a textbook bad boy rockstar cliche, and I’ve never claimed to be anything else. Hell, I own it. At least, I did, until he came along: Mr. Self-Righteous who acts more like a priest than a drummer. Now he’s my bodyguard and the guy in charge of making sure I don’t OD before the tour ends. Oh, right. I also have a crazy stalker who’s been obsessed with me since I was a kid. So that’s fun.

How many times can she blink?!
Revisado: 04-16-21
I felt like it was a cartoon - the author’s favorite mannerism was foe her character to “blink” as am emotion. Ugh. And the female narrator always sounded like she was exasperated and whispering. I liked the male narrator. As for the story - it was good - but the navy seals - especially our hero - were underexaggered. I seriously doubt a navy seal would be so over the top mushy in love with this lady. And on their hike they tripped as much as she did? No- no way. Anyway- worth a listen but I couldn’t wait until it was over. Went from lurid sex talk to mushiness too much.
