Right now in 2020 the world is experiencing a pandemic in which over a million people have died. In Catching Butterflies, the sequel to Playing in the Rain, Sandra Jackson envisions a similar but much more deadly situation. Two feisty sisters, who have been vaccinated and held captive as experimental subjects, are determined to escape their captors and find answers to what happened to the rest of their family. To this end, they navigate a much changed and very dangerous landscape. I will not reveal the plot, but their struggle makes for an intriguing and thought-provoking story. The narrator does an admirable job of conveying the many emotions of the characters. I recommend both the story and the performance.

I found this book to be light on the mystery. All the intrigue for me was in learning about the art restoration, something which I previously had never even thought about, much less knew about. Having the story set in a beautiful Italian city, well described by the author, was the icing on the cake.
I found Flora to be an appealing and definitely spunky protagonist and I look forward to following her exploits in future sequels.
Carrie Coello is an up and coming narrator with a lovely soothing tone to her voice.

The story, which is written in the first person, draws the reader in immediately. At first, the main character is in a confused state, but slowly becomes aware of what is happening to her. The increasing cognizance of her frightening current situation, and the slow unraveling of her past are what drives the plot and keeps the reader turning pages. The narrator does an outstanding job of setting just the right tone. She has a subtle, but very effective way of expressing many different emotions. I don't want to reveal the plot, but I will say that this would be a good story for young adult readers due to the age of the main characters, who are determined and resourceful. I'm looking forward to the sequel!
