After loving the previous spooky historical fiction from this author in the past, I was very excited for this one! It being an illness that made people more violent made it a different kind of scary from the monster vibes in the other books, but still chilling. I loved the daughter, and I was so curious to know more about the Kitsune that helped her, so I wish we’d found out more there. Overall a solid scary read that definitely resonates strongly given current events.

I said when I first read it that it was even better than Carry On, because we were already in the thick of it as far as everyone's relationships. I love how it tackles depression, intimacy (and how complex that can feel even with someone you love and are attracted to) and belonging. We get to see Baz's ideas about what it means to be vampire tossed on their heads. We keep the same world and characters and funny vibes that I loved the first time. But I think what I really, really loved was how different it was too? It is a whole new story and not the playing around with tropes that the first one was, because this is the story we don't usually get. The hero, a mess, after arguably saving the world, trying to have his happily ever after, with a boy, and that boy trying to be what he needs to feel healthy and whole and validated. And it's not possible. No matter how much you love someone, you can't fix their mental health for them, and Simon has been through a lot.

Reread to get ready for Any Way the Wind Blows - I feel like I get something else out of this when I read it. This time I was obsessed with how often Simon thinks of Baz or about food/eating, disproportionally to everyone and everything else in his life at Watford. I still love how this really turns the tropes we're all familiar with kind of on their heads. I really hope that in Any Way the Wind Blows that we find out more about Lucy, and that Simon gets that. Until next time, "watch out for numpties."

This was such a cute, fun, rom-com! I loved the grandparents doing the matchmaking, and I was rooting for the couple the whole time. Very quick read, too :)

Challenge : Read a book from a genre you've never read (for me, classic mystery)

This was fine, but not one I had trouble putting down. I think part of this is a me problem, I don't read a ton of mysteries OR a ton of classics, and here we have the place where they meet and I *never* read. It had all the reasons I tend to avoid classics - racism, sexism, slurs, and just hard for me to relate to (odd, as I can read historical fiction? maybe.) I get they are a product of the times, but they pull me out of my enjoyment of the story. This one used the g-slur quite a few times, as well as being occasionally disparaging about foreigners (including the French detective) and talking about Apache people and Native Americans as a whole as savages. There was shock and "oh no, what is the world coming to?" when discussing a woman gardener who GASP wears pants. The mystery felt slow to me, the main action is the murder, and then it was pretty slow as Poirot moves through rooms and interviews people, gathering clues that we can guess at because the narrator catches some of them, but he doesn't reveal all to the narrator - and there's not a lot of big drama happening, besides suspects being arrested and Poirot being like "nah, you'll figure out soon enough it wasn't *suspect*" but not saying why. It wasn't super long, so I don't regret picking it up, but I can't say it made me excited to real more of Agatha Christie

I loved this! I had to drop everything as soon as my preorder popped up on my Kindle, and I loved every minute of it. It’s the kind of book that’s so bad it’s looped right back into good, and I really enjoy how it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I definitely saw some things a mile off, but I was laughing and amused the entire time. The end was VERY cliffy, and now I can’t wait for the 4th one

4.5 stars. This was absolutely fascinating. I’m slightly familiar with the history of The Donner Party (I read The Indifferent Stars Above in 2018, as well as the fictional The Hunger) and I loved how this was done. Bahni Turpin as the personification of Hunger was amazing (as always!) but all the narrators were really well done. This combined interesting truth with historical fiction, and was hard to put down.

This was super fun! I loved that we saw from both perspectives, because I think it added a lot to this one, especially since the heroine was a little bit unreliable as a narrator, because she didn't know everything that was going on, and the hero was, as he didn't really understand everything that was going on. The narration was really fun, and I definitely recommend picking this one up. Given that it was so short, the wasn't as many steamy scenes as some of the author's other books, and the main one really snuck up on me - I went to sleep with them talking and was drifting off and all of the sudden LOTS OF STEAM. I assumed I had fallen asleep for a bit, but when I found my spot in the morning, I was like 3 minutes away from that scene!

This series is so fun! Not too much information, but a quick little insight into a few different people and the overall topic of piracy. The cast and sound affects are really fun.

I don't think I've ever read this one before - which is kind of shocking! I really enjoyed it, going in knowing the basic premise, and having seen it performed (and A Muppet Christmas Carol of course!). I have been making it a goal to read more Classics, even though I think they are overrated, because they are such a well-known, referenced thing, that I wanted to see more of the original works. I read Little Women at the beginning of the year, and when Tiny Tim was talked about all I could think about was Beth. Sweet, sickly, using the death/potential of death as a plot device, and I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I did find it interesting to think about. I loved the narration!
